All these errors relate to Group Policy - which makes me think that you may be using some kind of hack on this machine to enable Group Policy in Home Premium?

Have you recently had a malware infestation?

I'll post a fix protocol later.

I've uploaded a file - bdlaa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)

Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
At the prompt type
DIR C:\bdlaa
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
DIR D:\bdlaa
or
DIR E:\bdlaa

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

XCOPY <drive>:\bdlaa <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

(e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time) and when the prompt returns, type
EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your reply

The data in that log is the same as the earlier one - which means there's been a snafu somewhere.

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands..

DIR C:\bdlaa
DIR C:\Windows\winsxs\bdlaa

post the results.

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Here it is. Wouldn't it be easier to copy the files manually to winsxs ?

The permissions on the Winsxs folder are such that it's not possible to do this in a Windows boot without adjusting access rights - and that carries risks.
Using the Repair environment allows the system to make the changes without affecting anything else.

You MUST use the Repair environment - NOT Safe Mode - and make sure that you follow the instructions.

Please try again

Hi
I've tried doing a repair from bootup with the Win 7 disc and got this error.I'm guessing it's because I've upgraded to SP1 and the disc doesn't have SP1.Is possible to do a repair disc with dos-prompt for Win 7 ? Thanks again.BigD

Did you do a boot from a DVD - or did you actually follow the instructions given?

IF you follow the instructions, then it usually works.

That worked, at least! ;) - well done.

Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your reply.

That's also clear - with any luck WIndows Update should work.

If not, please post the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log

There's no real detail in the wulog unfortunately - so we're left with the option to clear the SOftwareDownload folder...

Open an Elevated Command Prompt
Run the following commands

NET STOP WUAUSERV
REN C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution SDOLD
NET START WUAUSERV

reboot
then wait 10 minutes, and open Windows Updates, and run a Check for Updates.

Install only the oldest update found - and reboot once installed
then go back to Windows updates and install the others.

In view of the lack of any further clues in the logs as to what is causing this error, I can only really recommend a repair install, which should fix the problems.

Well since the system doesn't acknowledge the Win 7 disc , I guess I'll just go without updates And I Guess we'll call unsolvable .Thanks for your time and knowledge Noel.BigD in Canada
