I still do not see this as needing SATA drivers  Of all the win7 I have done so far, I have yet needed to load any SATA drivers. Just did an install on Dec 31st, on a 1tb Samsung SATA HD. I pre-formatted it as one big partition, on another computer. Wam, Bam, 20 minute install :D If the HD is pre-formatted, the win7 installer should not need to format it again, just copy the files & install.
With as many errors as you have had, it sounds like corrupted win7 install files, not the HD's!
I would find somebody with a win7 DVD, to borrow from, to try

Okay - Here's the current Status

I have installed Windows 7 from the original DVD to an old IDE HD.

I used the SATA DVD drive and MS Win 7 Dvd and successfully installed. However I am still unable to see the SATA HDs. In fact I borrowed a WD 80GB Sata drive and also was unable to see it.

I am in the process of running windows updates.

As of right now under device manager - Disk Drives - I have 2 listing
Disk Drive
WDC WD800BB etc

I am still unable to see the SATA HD.

After 50 updates and multiple reboots last night I have an "up-to-patch" Windows 7 install to a local IDE drive.

That said, I am now able to see the Seagate 500GB Sata drive as RAW. I am in the process of formatting the drive. This afternoon I will attempt a windows install to the local hard drive.

Your mobo is reported faulty in numerous Google results, and it has an AMD chipset - not NVIDIA.

I saw your edit thanks for this info. When I was reseaching the issue it seemed there was a batch of bad broads produced last year/year .5 ago.

Unfortunately neither the box nor the board have a rev version that I could find. The info I found referenced CPU Parameter in the recall, did you see something referencing the SATA channel?

When I attempted to format Sata HD through device manager - formatting hung.

Then when i attempted to format via DiskPart I get an I/O error = Diskpart has encountered an error: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

I am seriously spent....Now I can't even see the RAW SATA HD

Is it possible that I have received (2) Asus M4a79xtd evo motherboards? That is some seriously poor luck eh?

This does sound really bad. What other brand of MB will work with your CPU, etc.
I have good luck with Gigabyte MB's, that what I just did on Dec 31st.

Edit:

your CPU :ar: CPU - AMD PHENOM II x4 945 3.0G AM3

should work with most any Gigabyte AM3 MB :)

That should work just fine, I just used the 890 MB last week. ;)

Do you think they will swap out for the ASUS ?

Because this wasn't wierd enough.

I call Asus tech support again today prior to Newegg for an RMA.

After explaining the issue and the trouble shooting steps we've taken here, A tec tells me to remove the MB from the case and pull everything off it. I explain I'm at work - I'll do it when I get home, wasn't what I thought I'd get from tech support.

I get home and pull the MB out of the case. I call back to talk to A tec - He's not available so I start the story, issues, troubleshooting all over with another fella who quickly passes me on to tier 2. I start the story all over...

I explain the condition of the hardware laying on cardbroad across my desk and he starts with clear CMOS.
Power cord, battery, jumper 30 sec -> Jumper, battery Power cord.
Restart - Hit f2 load bios defaults -> reboot hit F8
Please select boot device - 2 devices listed Sata HD and Sata DVD. Select DVD and it starts to load install for windows....Well he says it's not the board must be OS or HD - Call MS or Seagate

I click through the prompts all while explaining to him how I get this error during OS install 0x80070057, where he tells my OS or HD are the issue not MB. He and I are discussing next steps etc, when the OS begins installing 10%, 65%, 100%. Well I get case number and hang up.

This os installs, updates, etc all while hardware is strewn across my desk...I am so happy.

I turn everything off, reinstall the hardware and go to boot "A Disk read error occurred"
Restart - > the Bios sees the HD and ODD but when I attempt to install there is not drive listed in the OS menu...LOL seriously I feel as if I've lost my mind

Chris, this is Buffalo Dust they are blowing you off with. Did you get a RMA for this second board or not? Tell them you have spent so many hours over the past two weeks on this & even ASUS is not really sure what is wrong, they are just guessing. Tell NewEgg you want the Gigabyte MB you listed above (GA790XTA-UD4 ) NO ifs, ands, or buts. This is serious TWO MB's failing. IF not, you will start buying all your computer needs from TigerDirect & Fry's Electronics. Likewise the word will be spread on SevenForums about poor return policy on TWO bad ASUS MB's . Remember to mention that we are over 1 million members strong, that buy thousands of dollars of computer equipment monthly. If getting the new Gigabyte MB does not work for you. I will commit myself !! To build your computer for you.
Good Luck & my fingers are crossed for success ;)

So the new tech guy had you take everything out of the case and install W7 with all the mobo & components laying about?

Then when you put everything back in the case you get errors ..

You the Man Doc! Thank you for the advice and the encouragement.

Let me just say right now....
Thank you NEWEGG customer service and RMA/Refund Process they are excellent and have made a bad situation as positive as possible.

Asus tech support….the 5 individuals I spoke with, made this situation worse!
#1 An answering service for tech support with no call back.

#2 A tech that asks me to call back, when I do and he’s busy I leave VM with no return call.

#3 The techs I did speak to escalated me through tiers (3) so quickly I got tired of telling people the issues I encountered.

#4 The problem was never “SOLVED”. I have a case number and documented details that will be shared with ASUS for Quality purposes J.

Regardless here we are with today’s update – I needed to take a break from this issue over the weekend.

Newegg is issuing a second RMA/Refund. The first RMA/Refund is in process.

An order was placed for a Gigabyte GA-890XA-UD3 MB and will be here tomorrow. More to come then!!

**To my Sister - By end of week you'll have your Christmas Present :)**
