First - I've been searching the internet for the past couple days on the topic and have found some great infomation here....thought I would join and take this issue thru to resolution.

This issue can be found in a number of places - however there is no final resolution...here's the issue.

Issue - New system/hardware fails to load Windows 7

Hardware - All NEW
Motherboard - Asus M4A79XTD EVO 790X AM3
CPU - AMD PHENOM II x4 945 3.0G AM3
Graphic Card - ASUS GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB
Memory - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600
Hard Drive - 1TB SATA Seagate Barracuda
OS - Windows 7 64-bit OEM
Power - Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W
ODD - ASUS SATA 24X DVD Burner
Case - Rosewill CHALLENGER

Specifics -
All new hardware installed humming along ....
MB Sata 1 port - Hard drive
MB Sata 3 port - ODD/DVD
MB Sata 4 port - Front case SATA port/unused

When I attempt to install windows with fairly generic bios setting ERROR
Fail to format partition [error 0X80070057]

or

Hang at starting windows - IE prior to window install screen

or

No Hard drive found to Install OS - However drive shows in Bios

Tweaks to Bios version 02.61 Attempted with and without
Disable Marvell ESata
Disable Marvell Esata ROM on Boot

Storage Configuration - Sata Port1-port4 [AHCI] or [IDE]
Sata Port5-port6 [AHCI] or [IDE]
Note **when IDE selected both DVD and HD are seen in bios and OS installing**

Boot Priority - CDROM
HD

Troubleshooting:
Checked Cables - Passed on another system
Checked Memory
Checked Hardware Compatability and OS
Pulled new hard drive and formatted in another system, replaced and attempted to install OS - FAIL
Move cables on MB SATA ports

So, what have I missed?

Are you using DVD to install ? If you pre-formatted HD, you should not have to format again during install. You probably have a hardware conflict somewhere, that we will have to discover

**Thanks for relocating to the correct forum**

I am using the DVD to install. It seems that I have a write / reference problem to the HD.

This is fairly barebones. 1 HD, 1 DVD. On the intial install I have an IDE drive / Slave that I was going to recover files from after OS install on new SATA drive - failed install and I reset bios, cmos and pulled battery over night to start fresh yesterday :)

My first OEM build did exactly the same. I even tried installing XP to see if that would get any further, nope, still failed to extract all the files.

In the end I had the box swapped out by the OEM and the second one was OK.

They reckoned it was likely an incompatible 'cheapo' DVD drive that they fitted that was having problems extracting all the files from the DVD.

Worth a punt?

Good idea - I just switched in a "known good" Lite-On DVD.

Same Error -

Hi CJMore,

What is your IDE/SATA controller in the BIOS set to? Set it to IDE and see what happens.

Also, have you looked into any problems the motherboard might be having? Have you looked into a BIOS update?

Currently the Storage Configuration Bios settings are
Onchip Sata Channel Enabled
Sata Port1-port4 [AHCI]
Sata Port5-port6 [AHCI]

I have toggled between the following variations
Sata Port1-port4 [AHCI]
Sata Port5-port6 [IDE]

or
Sata Port1-port4 [IDE]
Sata Port5-port6 [IDE]

Results vary between NO hd options in OS installer

and

When attemtping to copy files -
Windows could not format the partition on drive 0. The error occurred while preparing the partition selected for install. Error code 0X80070057

Can you elaborate on problems theMB might be having???

When I attempt to update the bios via USB drive to 2102 I get "Boot Block in file is not valid"

Unplug the IDE drive as Doc suggested.

You can plug it back in after Win7 is installed and updated.
This may not fix the problem but it won't be part of the problem that way.
There is no conflict between HD's. It has to install to the new HD there is no other place to install it.;)
Then we search for other problems if it still doesn't install.

I have not tried another HD as I wasn't in the market for one...however I might see a trip to the store in my future - :D

As for the bios update - When I attempt to update the bios 2001 via USB drive to 2102 I get "Boot Block in file is not valid"

The Windows 7 DVD is from Newegg
