I just bought a ASUS Desktop and attached my HP OfficeJet e709n printer via a USB direct connect. I tried all different drivers, different USB cables, and updated all the windows 7 and system files and the printer still does not work. It worked fine on my Vista machine. Spent hours on it. Help:mad:

Coffee,
Shut your system completely down/unplug your printer-both ends/re-boot/then turn your printer on but not the USB yet.
Win 7 should notice and will look for device(printer) being added. Then put your USB cable in and follow the directions.
I had to do that with my ancient HP deskjet 622 and it's still working.
Post back and let us know...

The driver worked. It looks like that driver off the HP site that did not work but this one did. I am grateful. Thank you.

Could have been a hickup during the download or installation of the HP driver. Normally one would assume that their drivers work - somehow.
