Windows 7,HP Officejet G55 printer, Constant Error "error-printing"

Hi All,

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit 8GB RAM ... stand alone PC...... up to date with all patches, virus checker and firewall in place.

HP Officejet G55 connected via USB.......which worked perfectly with Windows XP Professional also via USB.... but on a previous PC and with HP drivers.

Now whenever I print the job of say three pages the first one or two pages (or the top of a single page) will print then I receive a message in the "see what's printing" screen which shows a status of................. "error -printing". restarting the print job does not work. Spooler stop/start does not work.

I have deleted all printers, deleted all driver files, checked that all relevant registry enties are gone, re-installed the printer more than once after rebooting and then connecting the printer USB cable but still I get the same problem so used this answer here......

Print Spooler Keeps Crashing in Windows 7 Ultimate Edition - Microsoft Answers

......as a procedure for the removal of printers, files checks, registry checks etc.

Also used the Windows 7 printer troubleshooter and the HP troubleshooter neither of which find a problem.

A single page of black text from notepad will print ok, any other job will invariably fail. I have even enabled Bluetooth even though I have no devices as this appears to allow printing to start more easily. (lost the web link to this solution) This Bluetooth fix did initially appear to work.

I have also stopped and started the spooler service when the error occurs or before printing without success, i.e. job does not print/restart.

On a reboot jobs left in the queue may sometimes print.

There do not appear to be any driver updates. The only difference from XP is

A. Windows 7
B. Microsoft drivers for the G55 not HP.
C. Different PC

I have run out of options on what to do.

Regards....

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately it appears that there are no HP drivers for this printer for Windows 7 see copy from the HP site below. At least this is my interpretation. I have tried this approach already just didn't want to add too much detail to the original post.

Driver - Product Installation Software (‏1)
Install the Driver Using Windows Update with a USB Connection (Downloadable Driver Not Available) ►2011-06-30 , Version:N/AHP All-in-One Printers - Installing the Product with the USB Cable and Using the Windows Update Driver or the Driver Located in the Windows 7 Operating System.More info

All drivers now appear to come from Microsoft. This has been suggested as "the problem"

I have found the solution!!!!

When downloading recent versions of Adobe Reader, there is a checkbox that must be unchecked, otherwise McAfee Security Scan Plus will also be downloaded and installed.

Go into Control Panel --> Programs and Whatever; then uninstall McAfee Security Scan Plus. Restart your PC. Problem solved.

/me shakes fist @ McAfee
