I would suggest not using Sleep or Hibernation until we get your Restore Point problem fixed.

Did you or did you not create your own new Restore point?

No I/we didn't create a restore point. The freezing is another issue we're concerned about.
No, we don't monitor the temperatures.
It's about 4 years old, give or take.
Inside hasn't been cleaned.

My cheap $300 ASUS laptop is 3 years old, and goes on Exede satellite installs with me, and doesn't have the issues she's having.

All computers are different, I understand, but I'm just saying.....

Their is a good chance some of your problems are caused by over heating.
A 3 or 4 year old laptop will need a good cleaning and possibly new thermal paste.

If it was my laptop I would open it up and do the cleaning and thermal paste.
If you don't care to do that you will need to find a shop to preform the service.
Whether it will solve all your problems, I don't know.
In my opinion the cleaning should be done just to make sure things are as they should be.
A clean, cool computer of any kind is computer 101.

I clean the desktop I built, fairly regularly. Of course, it's much more exposed to dust and whatnot, with all the fan vents, but then also, easy to clean.

Their could be a lot of gook and gumbo build up in a laptop in 3 or 4 years.
Laptops don't intake air filter so they can suck up just all kinds of stuff and if you have pets around other than gold fish it happens quickly.

Makes perfect sense. Do you simply open the back, and blow it all out good with canned air??

Remember a computer should be clean of all infection of any kind before making a Restore Point or Backup.

I've personally used Ccleaner in the past, but not currently, and certainly not my wife.

I deleted the restore points, but it deleted them all, including the last one. Is that normal?

I made a new one, just for the heck of it, but I guess I should have waited. I can delete them again anyway.

We're still having an issue with it freezing periodically, while she's using it. Prior, after coming back from being asleep/hibernation it was freezing and getting an occasional BSOD, but since I came here, she's experienced a few freezes while she's simply using the computer. She shuts it down and starts it back up, and it's fine.....until the next time.

She's almost convinced that the few things I've done here to troubleshoot, have caused it, but it's a weird coincidence, if you ask me. I'm much more used to using forums like this to solve problems, is all. It never froze on her before comi.ng here, so I can see that it seems odd, but it's nothing from here

I told her if it comes down to it, we'll do a repair install from an ISO on a flash drive or dvd. The laptop didn't come with a retail cd, so the only other option is doing a fresh install with the dvd's we made when we first bought it.

If it was me, I'd buy an SSD, and do a fresh install, but right now, she doesn't want to do that.

I understand all that, and I know there is a solution. My wife is just frustrated, and now it's acting worse, in her eyes, than before, with the freezing up while she's using it.

I'm just the middle man, trying to help her.

I wasn't going to open any other threads. The reason I opened two different ones is, it had two different issues. And I'm not getting a reply as to the results of the zip file I was asked to upload, so I don't currently have any instructions.
