I'm trying to get my Windows 7 and XP computers to see each other so I can have a workgroup and both are on a router that is connected to the Internet. It has been such a long time since I have done this can someone point me in the right direction?

It depends on what you mean by "see each other". If you want to share folders and files, enable that option on both, put them in the same workgroup, and use the same user accounts on both. Then all of your UNC options should work properly, such as \\computername\sharename. You should also check, at least on the XP machine, that Simple File Sharing is disabled.
