Windows 7 Backup

Hi Gregrocker,
Thanks for the additional info. re the Green Acer disk.
I did run it and was able to retrieve CyberLink PowerDVD 8, which is useful.
I think that I am kitted out with pretty well all the drivers that I need for the time being.
By the way, I forgot to mention that for Backup to run successfully it was necessary to temporarily disable my anti-virus program, for good measure I disabled my firewall also.

Hi Everyone,
It would appear that I spoke too soon.
This evening I have tried unsuccessfully to cary out a Backup, it fell over around 50% of the way through, tried it 3 times, with both the antivirus (Avast) and the firewall (Zonealarm) disabled,
Also I disabled the in-house Windows Firewall.
That is it,gentlemen,I have had it up to here.
Tomorrow I will be re-installing Norton Ghost 12 which, despite anything that Microsoft says, works.
Perhaps when Microsoft introduce Service Pack 1 this will be sorted, there are far too many people out there who are in similar difficulty.

Take care and may your God go with you.

Don't want to intrude on OP's thread. But I just wanted to inject a quick Thank You to ComputersPlus. I had no joy trying my first two attempts at backing up c:\ on my new Win7 HP Pavilion P6270Z. You mentioned the Backup Service and Volume Shadow Copy service had to be running. I checked and my Volume Shadow Service was set to Manual but was in Stopped state. I Started it and set to Automatic, rebooted and the next Backup attempts completed successfully. Guess HP installs Win7 with VSC service "off" and Win7 was unable to Start it up when I attempted Backups. Double checked with my SIW software and my USB Host Controller is PCI, not Nvidia, so the other suggestion did not apply to me.

Anyway, thanks ever so much CP. So glad I stumbled on this forum and this particular thread with your comment. I'm a retired teacher and most of this technical stuff is "pig latin" to me. And the learning curve coming straight from WinXP, bypassing Vista, has been shall we say "challenging". But I do know how to turn Windows services on and off when needed. And your service suggestion WORKED for me!

Hi Peter, after installing Win7 did you install the chipset drivers and then the hotfix? After I used the Win7 nvidia chipset drivers from the acer website and the hotfix from microsoft, backup and disk image has worked every time.

Windows 7 Backupm

Hi Sterac,
Thanks for that, but have already tried the steps you recommend,
Backup worked just once, subsequent run fell over again.
As indicated in my last post I have decided to pull the plug on this and am using Norton Ghost 12 which works just fine.

Regards

Hi folks,
I have this same issue after installing Win 7 U. I had this Issue with Vista Ult. I fixed this error with the backup in Vista by upgrading the HD Audio Driver with a driver found on Realtek's website around June 2009.

Since I recently upgraded this PC to 7, the error is back. I have tried the latest realtek driver but this time it did not go away. I'm DLing the latest one now to see if it helps.

I thought you may want to check that because I was able to pin point the issue to the HD Audio driver. This machine is a Biostar TForce GF7050-M2
