Hi, I'm new here and I'm hoping you guys can help me. Whenever I start Steam, when I enter my account and password and log in, I get a blue screen. Likewise, I was following the Blue Screen of Death posting instructions, and the first exe causes me to blue screen, I tried it twice, and I got no output in my my documents.

System spec:

Windows Vista(32 bit)
Original installed OS, yes.
OEM

I would say the age of the system is about 2-3 years
Last time I reformatted was about 6-8 months ago.

Thanks for your time!

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

*Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl Press Enter.
*Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery - Settings... button.
*Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
*Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kb) in the drop down box (the 256kb varies).
*Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
*OK.
Reboot if changes have been made.

These were Related to iaStorV.sys Matrix Storage Manager driver - ia32 from Intel Corporation.. I would re-install with the newest version. Yours is from 2006.

Also noteworthy AVG sometimes causes BSOD's.

Also of note is the OS. Vists 32 bit with no SP installed. You might wasnt to consider upgrading or at least apply the SP's

If you don't mind, do you think you can help me with all those? I don't know how to do anything of that, except uninstall AVG, which is okay since the trial ended anyway.

While I would love to help There are far more qualified people regarding the Vista operating system on our sister site at vistax64.com

Removing AVG is straight forward

Regarding the Iastor driver. It is a matter of going to Intel and downloading the most recent version for you computer. It will probably be called something like storage controller drive.

Thomas, as suggested try .......

Vista Forums

You could provide them with a link back here so that they are aware of what has been suggested thus far...

You would also be wise to apply the appropriate Service Pack{s}
Good luck.
