I have a windows 7 laptop on network.
Windows 7 laptop can see its shares but cannot access - getting "unspecified error" - yes on the permissions tab I included everyone and checked full access.. I also added my user account which does have a password and still cannot see the shares set up on my own computer.
Other Windows XP machines on the network CAN see the windows 7 share AND access it...(imaging that? other xp pcs can see it and access the share, just not the pc with the share on it)

Also - windows 7 cannot browse the other computers when I type \\192.168.58.51 in the ddress bar.
Note - I can PING 192.168.58.51 so its not a routing issue.
I also shut down my firewall software and still no good.

I have tried everything. Oh by the way, the share used to work. one day it just stopped working.
Has anyone experienced this and have a solution?

Which ever A/V software you are using is most likely causing this problem to occur. You sometimes need to uninstall your A/V to fix this type of problem. This type of thing happens all the time and it can happen with pretty much any type of A/V software, all to often the only way to fix this problem is to uninstall the A/V or configure it to work with Windows 7.

Windows 7 cannot access own or other shares

Having exactly the same problem, XP and 2000 systems can see and modify each other together with my Windows 7 system, Windows 7 cannot see others or acces its own share. Ping and Winmtr can see out from Windows 7 as can telnet. Tried with A/V removed and firewalls switched off.

When originally installed Windows 7 could see the other systems, can only assume the problem has been installed alongside Windows updates.

Finally tracked down a solution. Visit Windows 7 System Error 1231 Network Location Cannot Be Reached

and follow solutions givin by volrathpl about deleting hidden network devices under device manager & also smabe2 regarding the deleting of 200+ useless devices. (download devcon.exe then from cmd "devcon remove *6TO4MP*"
