Windows 7 compatible Antivirus

I use Kaspersky CBE security suite 2009 and Iobit security 360. Never had a problem with it.

Steer clear of avast you will get what you pay for I tried it both free and pro version and norton 360 ,It found numerious trogans both left behind ,Dont believe me take A look at the virus bulliton web site you see they rated eses # 1 as far as firewall probs you have to configure your firewall options in set up to work I am using the RC version of window 7 no problems with software only prob was my printer it wont install in 7 and lexmark told me to pound sand more or less they have no intentions of making drivers for my P6250 they will give me A $10 trade though what A deal considering I must pay shipping on my old printer they must think I just fell off the turnup truck told lexmark to take thier &10 and keep it I bought A new epson works great sold old one on e-bay:sarc:

What are we all using - Avast?

Yup. Tried to install Trend Micro and it just wrecked my RC install completely. Too bad since I really liked it....:huh:

Trend Micro not recommended by me either.

I am using eset on all my pc my desktop using window 7 my laptop using win xp never had any problems ever surfing or P2P sites actualy it catches virus before down load is complete automaticly deletes all yes you must set it up in the set up section but I will recomend this over AVG pro CA security suite and NORTON 360 all wich slowed my pc to a crawl avast ws fair but even the pro version missed a lot as for the free programs dont you wonder why they are free you get what you pay for some things in life are not free

1. NIS is one of the biggest pieces of CRAP going. (IMHO) every system brought in with bad trojans and malware have NIS. I tell them (remove NIS) and I will work on , it stay i do not work on or fix.

2. I have NO PROBLEMs with ESET SS 4.0.437, Nada, 100% works FINE. Sharing and what ever I do... Sorry.

The pretext of the Original Thread was AV ... and NOD 32 is part of ESET SS.

Only problem I ever had with ESET was I was too stupid to change the firewall back to auto when I first configured it. The pop up had to tell me<g>

Please, use norton 2010.
Norton 2005-2008 had a horrible detection rate and clogged down your system, but 2009-2010 is awesome, amazing detection rate and doesnt slow down your computer at ALL!

I cannot agree more with that! I have self been using Symantec Endpoint protection for some time (hasnt been a resource hog on its own, removes all severe virusses) and has been doing some great work. I recently installed the full version of NIS 2010 and it feels as light as air, although subjectively just a tiny bit lighter than Symantec Endpoint Protection. There is no system slowdown like I have experienced myself with the latest Zonealarms, NOD 32, ESET F-Secure or any norton 2004-2008 version.

I use Avira Antivir Personal (Free) - no difference between it on Vista 32-bit and Win7 64-bit, everything is smooth, fast and problem-free.

And on top of that, Windows firewall and Spybot S&D (if only for the notification that something wants to edit registry).

Am I decently protected or is there something I am missing? I have not done much research nor had many problems with viruses/crashes etc so I assume I am doing fine.

i may well be wrong, i don't think mse has a built-in firewall 'using defender' - as far as i know, mse only protects against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. mse actually disables defender, as defender used to be an anitispyware thing.

I may not qualify as a real expert, but you are right Mickey - MSE is an antimalware program with real time protection. It is not a firewall. You need to use it with a separate firewall.

I'd recommend one of the following as a firewall:
Built-in Windows 7 firewall
Windows 7 Firewall Control - Windows 7 Firewall Control : Sphinx Software which uses Windows 7 protection platform. or
COMODO Firewall, without the Defense+

Ditto. NIS 2010 is a breadth of fresh air compared to some other vendors.

There are a number of good products out there - both free and pay - pick the one you feel comfortable with and go for it.

My first choice would be ESET Smart Security.

A close second would be Norton Internet Security 2010.

I like the way the last couple of years of NIS function, but even on 2009, I still had major problems if I ever needed to remove it, and occasionally they could issue program updates that thoroughly screwed up the computer. It still seemed to get "knotted" into the system more than I liked. But when functioning, good product.

ESET can be more of a pain to initially get set up correctly. Norton can be found a lot cheaper if you hunt around.
