Solved Windows 7 Copy Not Genuine since today

Hi,
I have a laptop with a genuine Windows 7 Professional which I bought in 2013 with the operating system already installed from a reputable company in the UK.

I was also supplied with a CD with the Windows 7 Professional operating system complete with the product key on the label.

Since today, my background screen is black, and text “This copy of Windows is not genuine”

When I go to Control Panel, and right click Computer, Properties, “Change Product Key” and entered the Product Key on the label on the CD.

Activate Windows and it says “This may take a few minutes”

And then comes back with a message ‘not genuine’.

I searched online for Microsoft help, and one topic said I could select a Phone Number method to activate. But this option does not appear when I select “Activate Now”.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

This is a genuine version of Windows 7 Professional purchased already installed on the laptop when I bought it from a reputable company in the UK where I always buy any new computer.

Hi Dave,
I can see no reason why MS has deemed your key as non-genuine, apart from the fact you've used slmgr to rearm the system previously, for the same reason??
and did you perform a clean install this year, with major hardware changes

The MS phone no for UK is 0800 0188354,
dont recognise the country flag.

I don't know what caused the problem, but by using the command

slui 4

I was able to find the Microsoft number for Ireland, and it activated fine over the phone.

So all sorted now thanks.
