Windows 7 deactivated itself and is not genuine anymore

Hello,

Today i logged in to my computer and a popup saying that my windows is not genuine came up. I was very confused as i have been using this same computer and windows for more than 3 and half years now. Im using an OEM version of windows but i havent had any hardware changes in the computer. I think it might be cause of a failed installation of Windows 10 as i did try to install it to my PC about a month ago. Also i do not have the original activation key.

From where did you acquire this copy of Windows?

Just for information, the motherboard was probably manufactured soon after October 2011 - the BIOS is dated 20111027.

Is there a COA sticker on the machine? If not then complain to the vendor and demand a refund under threat of court/police action.

The difference is they are being advised to buy system builder OEM copies from retailers.

The OEM copies being labeled counterfeit are from manufacturers like Dell, HP, etc.

Well, that's all you can buy from retailers so system builder is often not needed to mention.

You can't buy a Dell OEM legally, it has to be installed on a system.
