I was curious, so I ran the Experience Index on my laptop (Windows 7 Home 64-bit), my Netbook (Windows 7 Home 32-bit), and my desktop (Windows 7 Pro 64-bit), with the following results:

Platform:````````` Desktop`` Laptop``` Netbook
---------````````---------` -------````-------
Processor:````````` 7.1`````` 6.7``````` 2.3
Memory (RAM):`````` 7.1 ````` 5.9``````` 4.5
Graphics:`````````` 6.9`````` 5.0``````` 2.0
Gaming graphics:``` 6.9`````` 6.1``````` 3.0
Primary Hard Disk:` 5.9`````` 5.9``````` 5.0

------------------ -------`` ------``` -------

Basic Score:``````` 5.9`````` 5.0``````` 2.0

(Please excuse the "`" marks ... only way I could get the table columns to line up)

  • The Netbook is, well, a typical Netbook, except that it has 2GB of RAM. It uses an Intel Adam processor with an integrated Intel graphics media accelerator and has a 16GB SSD.
  • The Notebook, a Samsung R580, uses an Intel Core i5-430 processor, 4GB DDR3 memory, nVidia GeForce GT 310M graphics card, and a 500GB ATA hard drive spinning at 5400 rpm.
  • The deslkop uses an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor, 4GB DDR2 memory, a nVidia GeForce 8800GT graphics + an eVGA 9500 GT graphics adapter, a pair of WD Caviar Raptor X's (150GB each) in RAID-1 spinning at 10,000 rpm, and a pair of WD Caviar's (500GB each) in RAID-1 spinning at 7,200 rpm.

Nothing has been overclocked.

QUESTION: Do these numbers look reasonable?

Yeah. the 5.9 from the hard disk is normal. the desktop looks very good and you could get to 6.9 overall by putting in an SSD hard-drive as OS main drive. The laptop looks good to

2.0 in netbook is from graphics do you have Win7 starter on Netbook? if so, the score might be related to Aero features in Starter.

The scores look good.

Hmmm. 5.0 on Graphics from laptop nVidia 310 should probably be higher. have you noticed any issues with it? installed latest nVidia drivers?

I am not that familiar with this chip though http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-310M.22439.0.html

Link states it is an entry level Graphics Chip. the WEI score should be the same for both Graphics, but im not certain.

That's a very good result. I get only 5.9 from my Q6600 in a Dell desktop. You cannot expect much from the netbook. The SSD seems to be of the low end. Usually you get over 7,0 from an SSD. Btw: This is an Atom processor - not Adam.

Adam. Atom. Anyway, you know what it is (LOL). I have noticed unacceptable performance on the Notebook when using Photoshop CS5 (64-bit). I'll investigate the driver. Thanks.

Sometimes the WEI score is a bit decieving as it rates from the lowest score. So you could have a super fast computer that excedes your expectations, :) :) but no graphics card and it say your score is very low :(

So if you are seeing a specific issue with the graphics then it is good to look into. The easiest way to check is to get GPU-Z: GPU-Z Video card GPU Information Utility and see if the spec's match up and see what the speed and temperatures are at.

Edit: also since it is a laptop, the power profile might affect it as well. some computers (like mine) throttle the CPU when in battery saver mode and Quiet Office. Make sure it is in High Performance or Best Performance and likewise, you can use CPU-Z to check to CPU speeds: http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

The GeForce GT 310M graphics card is no race horse. Maybe that is the problem.
