Ok my question is this, I am not one for the Home Groups or things like that and I don't use simple file sharing. I am Using Win7 RC build 7100. I also Have the same thing running on a very old laptop. now I have set up all the security and permissions in the advanced Security Settings and permissions for the File I am sharing that is on my Desktop PC, I use the same user-name and password for both my laptop and desktop. Windows has the in my opinion annoying auto authenticate for a system trying to connect that has the same user-name/Password. I hate this, I have spent a while pouring through the Local Security Policy, and other setting looking for a way to turn off that auto authenticate but I just cant find it.

does anyone know how to turn that off? other than changing my user-name and PW on one machine, I like having to always type the user-name and pw i do not like the auto authentication when using the same User-name and PW on two systems.

any help would be appreciated.

Still an XP fan, have 2pcs running win7RC and two running XP. I must say I still like XP better. I dont have to have all the sugar and lollipops to have a good OS
I'm curious, what is the issue with auto authentication? Does someone else use your computer logged in under your username?

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.
no most my systems are rather locked down, and no one uses them. im just a stick in the mud with auto authentication. I don't like it doing it for me I would rather do it myself. lol.

a little crazy maybe, but I just don't like the computer deciding that I can have access with out having to put in the User-name and PW.

It's an interesting question but unfortunately one I don't have the answer to.

When it comes to file sharing authentication (I think it's called NTLM), Windows has always seemed to want to do this automatically... I agree that it would be nice to have an option to disable it.

Perhaps someone else knows the way.

NTLM...hmmm well Ill keep looking, ya I dont like how Microsoft thinks we cant handle it our selves heh.

as I recall I was doing it On my xp system but I don't remember all the settings I had.
then again XP was so dumbed down, you actually had to know a dew things if you were using XP PRO.

ok well thanks for your answers :) ill keep looking into it see what I can find. thx a ton
