Windows 7 freezes after a few minutes

Hello everyone,

I'm having lots of trouble with my Windows 7 laptop today. It runs perfectly on safe mode, but on normal mode most of the times it freezes after 2-5 minutes of booting. Usually the screen freezes first, but I can still move the mouse cursor for less than a minute before it freezes completely. Other times Windows just keeps loading forever, and the last time I tried I was able to enter Windows, but the desktop never loaded. The screen was black and all I could see was the mouse cursor, which I could move for a few minutes before it froze. This last situation happened only once, though.

What could it be? I tried doing a clean boot but it didn't work.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi indianacarnie, thank you for the answer. Yes, I have ran both Avira and Malwarebyte scans, none of which showed any virus or malware. I tried to restore the system and it didn't work either, when Windows rebooted after doing it it froze again, and after that, when running the safe mode I got a message that the system restoration couldn't be completed.

I can't do what the link you gave me says, because I don't have the Windows 7 installation CD (it was already installed in the laptop when I bought it at a retail shop), neither my laptop has CD/DVD drive :(

Again, thank you very much for your help!

Hi! Now things are worse, when running in safe mode with networking options my laptop cannot connects to the Internet, and sometimes when loading Windows in safe mode it freezes at the classpnp.sys file and stops booting.

I tried everything gregrocker said but nothing worked, and after googling for a solution I even tried to rename the classpnp.sys file to classpnp.old, in case that file is causing the problems, but I couldn't. It said I needed TrustedInstaller permissions.

I think all that's left to do is a clean reinstall. What do you think? Thanks!

EDIT: I also restored the BIOS to its default settings, but it didn't work either.
