Windows 7 get old menu style

I don't think that such is possible, without, for example, using the Classic theme. On the thread linked it seems like it was an error caused by a program. The somewhat proper way to achieve what you want is to use a custom visual style. But it requires modifying some system files and being in a situation where you can do that. Although, if you set out to do it it's not that hard. That is, instead of the Aero theme, you would be using another visual style in a way that Windows was not made to allow. Some of the themes have instructions on how to apply them, starting by patching your system. Here are some, there aren't many free professional ones.

I tried to make a visual style that has Windows XP's menu style, but the hovered text is also black, and it is very awkward.
