Windows 7 Hangs On Starting Windows Screen

Hi all, I have a problem with my computer. I recently rebuilt my computer by transferring all parts to a new case.

Since then Windows 7 hangs on boot up at the Starting windows screen, it hangs there for about a minute of two before booting into windows.

At first I thought maybe it could be a hardware problem, perhaps its PSU related, not really sure. Either way I've tried running windows 7 repair disc but as soon as its loaded it doesn't enable me to use the keyboard or mouse to select the options.

What could this problem be? Is this hardware or software related? As my computer was working fine before the transferring parts to a new case.

I don't have another keyboard to try unfortunately. Keyboard seems to be working fine in windows, but for some reason since this problem has occurred the keyboard doesn't work and there is no mouse cursor. It's like it never initialised them in the first place when going into the repair utility.

Hi Thanks, I have now completed my system specs.

No it never happened before the swap over. Only after, On trying to solve the issue I have reseated the CPU, and applied new thermal paste. I reseated the memory sticks and double checked all the cabling and reconnected those.

The only thing I have tried is trying to restore my boot files via command prompt using this:

bcdboot %WinDir% /l en-US

But that hasn't worked either. Just hangs on the starting Windows Screen and stays there for a minute before the windows logo swirls around and then boots into Windows as per normal.

Are you using the usb port on the motherboard I/O panel on the back of the computer?
If you are using the case usb ports on the case you could have a connection problem.

Case usb ports to motherboard harness and connections.

I would suggest using usb 2.0 ports for keyboard and mouse.

I was using the motherboard I/O ports, the keyboard and mouse was plugged into the USB 3.0 ports, changed them to the USB 2.0 as you said, and it working fine now, with the windows logo appearing straight away as it should. Thanks for advice! Much appreciated.

Funny how such a silly thing like that can cause the machine to not boot properly. Thought USB 3.0 was backwards compatible?

Hi,
Go into your bios and use Optimized defaults and save and exit.

Yeah my bios was set to optizmized. Thanks

I'm glad we could help.
Now check in Device Manager and see if you have the usb 3.0 drivers installed.
If you need them they should be on your motherboard CD.

My understanding is once the usb 3.0 drivers are installed they are backwards compatible.

My USB 3.0 is showing up in device manager, I guess I'll keep them free for other devices, as long as it doesn't stop the operation of my computer booting.

Out of interest what is the technical reason for a computer not to boot attaching a keyboard and mouse in USB 3.0 ports?

COZ W7 does not have any generic USB3 drivers in its store, thats why you were advised to D/L the ones from your motherboard disc.
ergo technical term

NO Driver = no work
