Windows 7 Home Premium Gold vs. "normal" edition

Hi,

Has anyone any idea on what is the difference between Windows 7 Home Premium Gold and "standard" edition? It is available from Dutch retailers, but they were unable to give me an answer. Googling forums and Microsoft web site (including Dutch one) also did not bring any results, except for more offers.

Could it be SP1 version or there is more to it?

There is no "Gold" version of Windows 7. You can read about the different versions available at Microsoft homepage.

Can you provide a link to this suspect "Gold" edition as it may be some version MS is required to offer under Dutch law.

You say retailers offer it so there should be some link to it.

If it's a sketchy site it could be a bootleg.

Note that even in the US some retailers offer Branded manufacturer's OEM disks for sale which are not legally to be sold.

It takes a trained eye to sort it and we have several pairs of them here.

Seems to be a Dutch-specific flavor - no shop outside Netherlands sells those. Some other Dutch shops sell standard versions, without any gold-plating. Pure marketing?

Yep. No such real MS version

It sounds strange that an OEM version is given a Gold title. It must be a marketing trick to attract customers from that shop to sell the rest of their stuck as Windows 8 is entering the market.

Never heard of a Gold version. Time to be a bit wary I'd say.

If I read the info on that site correctly, the Gold is the 64bit version, while the non-gold is the 32bit version. Could someone confirm this?

At first it appears to be the case but then google finds other online sites (apparently all Dutch) with Home Premium Gold version in 32 bit.

It is possible that it is a legit Dutch version, but I'd wait to see it confirmed first since there isn't enough to verify it with the search results I'm seeing.

What makes me doubtful is that I had to click the Shopping tab to find these retail offers since a Google Web search brings up quite a few Home Premium Gold torrents all-inclusive of SP1 and other pirated software.
