PC had faulty motherboard, replaced motherboard and needed to reactivate ( which I expected) but it will not activate apparently they used a MAK key when they built it and the company has since gone out of business that built it and I don't know what I need to do to reactivate it, or if I can just purchase a new Win 7 home license key or a OEM license key. This is a PC that is set up at a place of business and is used as a small server for other computers to access the custom software on it so reinstalling isn't an option except as a very last case scenario. I don't mind getting a new license I'm just not sure which one I can use on the OS that's already installed. (I'm thinking Windows7 home OEM).

Welcome to our forum.

Your log show Home Premium, OEM System Builders.

If you replaced the motherboard with a exact motherboard a call to Microsoft may solve your problem.
It's up to them.
Have your complete COA key handy and give Microsoft a call.
---

If you replaced the motherboard with a completely different (Brand, part #, ect.) motherboard, Microsoft considers that a different computer.

Because you have a OEM (Non Retail) COA key you will have to get Windows 7 with a matching COA key. A Non Retail COA key is only good for the computer it was first activated on.
You can not buy just the COA key. A legal key comes with a Microsoft DVD all in one package.

The last time I checked with my supplier, the only one I could by was Windows 7 Pro/64.
The real problem is finding a proper seller of legal Windows 7.
Their are truck loads of counterfeits Windows 7 sold by crooks.
Windows 7 Pro normal legal price is around $140.00.

At the time of the log your system is this.

As Layback Bear has said - the installed Key is NOT an MAK Key, but an OEM System Builder Key.

The 0xc004c001 error indicates that the Key is an invalid one - you should check that you have got the characters correct - either C/G/6 or B/8 or Y/V are the most common, an apparent O/0 is almost always a Q.

Do you have one of these on your computer.
A Windows 7 computer should have one somewhere.
You can use it to verify the proper COA key.

Well I perused it a little farther with Microsoft and it turn out the company which we purchased the PC from (which has since gone out of business for obvious reasons) used a volume license when they built the PC and it was flagged by MS as having too many activation so I purchased a new windows 7 home premium package and just used the key as instructed by MS and all is working fine now and activation went through with no issues.

Thanks for your help!:D

Very good.
A call to Microsoft worked.
Copy that new key and put it some place safe. You never know when it might be needed.
