Windows 7 HoPr Install Problems on x64 machine.

Boot the installation DVD

Remember that this is a preinstalled windows, and i therefore don't have an installaton DVD. i have the REPAIR disk, if that is what you are referring to.

Also, i have fully read the guide, but i did not get the answer i was looking for.
The only thing i need to continue, is to know which drive i should clean out.

Your very answer condemns you.

Your answer indicated that you have NOT read the tutorial linked to by Greg.

This is not grade-school. This is not your mother talking to you. This is serious, very experienced computer professionals.

If you were on a soccer team, they would have kicked you off already for failure to follow specific and direct instructions.

My apologies, i had honestly forgotten that i needed to burn the iso, as i had skipped the first 3 steps. Nevertheless, i am already in the middle of burning the ISO.

But i am now suspicious to this whole problem being linked to a hardware failure, as i recently had a crash in the BIOS setup menu. i was about to activate the boot from cd/dvd, when suddenly it froze again.

I will then carry on, and i suppose the Bios freeze has nothing to do with my hardware.
Using the clean drive command, i need a drive Number, which i get from the disk management. However, both my windows Disk and 2 of my hard drives ( not just drive C ) are under the same number.

Also have an Asus ha1002xp netbook with Win 7 Ultimate installed.
Boot the installer, press Shift + F10 at first screen to get a Command Prompt, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SEL DISK # (replace # with the Win7 target HD disk # from list)
CLEAN
EXIT

Then close Command Box, click Install Now and continue with steps in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

I have typed in the commands into CMD, except for the last one, as i need confirmation on this ( from the experts )
Is the WINDOWS X: Drive a Partition, or a drive on its own, and is it eraseable?
( i am afraid of erasing it, as it shares drive number with my c: drive )

Thank you very much for the help so far, and i am almost ready to finish this problem:)

I have no idea what Windows X Drive is, but:

If you have only 1 hard drive connected at all, then diskpart will show only one drive. It can't see what is not there. The drive you should have connected is the one to which you intend to install Windows.

The "clean" command will clean that ENTIRE drive, regardless of how many partitions it has.

X drive is normally the disk or flash drive you are booting at the time.

Please post back a camera snap or type out the exact choices which LIST DISK gives you.

The windows (x:) is either a drive or a drive partition, containing the windows installation files. That is, as far as i'm aware.

the ONLY reason i have'nt finished the cleaning procedure, is because i am a little bit spooked by the possibility of deleting my Windows, and being unable to reinstall it.

Hang on. You are trying to reinstall Win7, correct? Running the Clean command on the target HD is a destructive process which wipes everything from the disk to prepare it best for reinstall.

If you have another Win7 you don't want wiped then that HD should be unplugged first.

Listdisk command in diskpart should then show X drive and some other drive.

The other drive is presumably the one you want to receive Windows. All other hard drives should be disconnected.

That other drive will have a number. Suppose it is 1.

The you would enter "select disk 1" in diskpart.

The next command would then apply to ONLY the selected disk.

Post the pic.

Is this the first time you've seen this BSOD? Could it be related to the network card you added? You may want to reinstall that and the HD to make sure it is not causing problems.

Try closing the Command Box and choosing Install Now, post back exactly what happens including any verbatim error text.

First: yes, it is the first time the BSOD has happened.
( it is now working apparently )

Secondly, here are the information about the LIST DISK:

as far as i'm aware, the WINDOWS was installed to the C:drive ( which is the 1 half of the DISK 1 )
and since i was doing a reinstall, that would be C: too, but D: is also part of Disk 1, so i am a bit confused atm.

Before this, i had 3 drives. C: D: and :E.

i know that the DISK 1 is the Previous E: drive.
However, i am going to remove the new disk, momentarily, and see what changes are made

If you want to install to disc 1, why is disk 0 connected?

I can't read the disk management picture in your post #6, so I have no idea if C and D are on Disc 1, Disk 0, or elsewhere.

Have you backed up everything you need off of the disk you're about to wipe? That would be C and D partitions, correct?

List Disk will show the size of the disk, so confirm it is the correct HD. But you should have unplugged any other HD first.

Try first clicking Install Now, selecting C partition, then Drive Options link to Delete the partition, create a new one there, format, install.

Report back exactly what happens including the exact wording of any error message.

Tegewaldt,
When you boot from the Win 7 DVD (of USB stick),
then a portion of your ram is used to simulate a drive.

In other words, a RAM drive is created.

The Win 7 install program, which created that ram drive, assigns that drive the letter X:

I will not give any advice to you, since very evidently you are not reading and following the step-by-step instructions given in the tutorial.
