Hey everyone,

Recently my laptop which is an Asus N53S, is not been able to boot windows 7. When I try and do a start up repair, it is unable to repair. Then, I also made a windows 7 system repair disc, it ran fine but it was unable to fix my problem as well.

What I think might of caused the problem is I tried to hook up a printer to my laptop but did not succeed cause I had no internet or driver discs to install at the time. Also, I install a program called desa? for downloading blackmesa source. After doing these two things I got a couple of BSOD, but being stupid I don't really worry about them. Now I can't even boot my computer haha.

Thanks for any help you guys have :D

Hello cyba Welcome to the Seven Forums!

Is the remake of Black Mesa an Half Life 1 game mod just released recently? That's available without the need for a downloader. IE is the required browser however for the direct download once you go through a number of steps.

That alone shouldn't have any effect at all on Windows booting. Something may have however. The first thing now that could be a help would be manually rebuilding the BCD store as well as seeing the boot sector rewritten at the command prompt option.

There are a few guides here at SF to look over. The first is seen at http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/20864-mbr-restore-windows-7-master-boot-record.html

Next would be the one for a missing boot manager file. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/104341-bootmgr-missing-fix.html

The last I will point you at is how to use the Bootrec.exe or boot repair tool manually at the command prompt. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...ool-how-use-windows-recovery-environment.html

With anything Steam remember you do have to be connected online in order to be able to log into your Steam account when going to run any new game mod. For installation most mods can be simply unpack from the zip file or other archive into the Steam mods folder and will automatically appear in the Library on the next startup of the Steam engine.

Now for the BSODs the memory dump files or the last seen would be the largest help in diagnosing the blue screen since that will contain the information on the offending item(s). You can find that in the "C:\Windows\Minidump\" folder and attach that to your next post to be looked over.

Yes its the remake of half-life 1. I was using this program that ModB uses to download the mod. Then I found the torrent file on reddit and used that.

Anyways I have tried all three of the guides and none of them worked. It could be because im using a Windows Repair disc, because after every code i enter I get "The store export operation has failed. The system cannot find the path specified." I have typed all the commands many times in many different ways to make sure. It might say something else after each code, but that's the only one I remember at the moment and it was the most common for sure.

I was able to finally get an error screen though (not a BSOD) just a log and it said this

Failed: bootmgr
then this code

That sounds a bit like you have one or more corrupted boot files or another Windows related issue if all efforts to repair have failed so far. The BSODs likely have the exact error code you need to get in here with as well as uploading the memory dump files from any blue screens.

Take the contents found in the "C:\Windows\Minidump\" folder and zip it up in a zip or rar file to attach to your reply. That will contain the information needed for troubleshooting this further.

Meanwhile another reference for troubleshooting booting problems can be looked over at How To Fix the BOOTMGR is Missing Error in Windows 7, 8, & Vista

The reference there goes into things like drive cables not in fully or needing to be replaced, or the boot order may be off. As for the "code 9DEA862C-5CDD-4E70-ACC1-F32B344D4795" error that seems to come up more often when a glitch is seen when going to set up a dual boot with a previous version of Windows and mainly pertains to the BCD store itself being the boot configuration. The EasyBCD program offers the option to restore the Vista or 7 mbr resetting the boot infomation.

The best guess on all that however would be manually rebuilding the BCD from scratch to see the drive made bootable again while at the same time the dump file(s) would need to be analyzed.

There is a way but that would take a live cd or dvd and a usb flash drive in order to transfer the one or more dump files over to another system in order to post them. The first thought here however was to get Windows loading up again where you can then simply zip any dump files up to post for analysis when you could.

The advantage of having a custom build over any OEM laptop or desktop is generally being able to perform a repair install of Windows if found necessary when other methods fail to see results. With an OEM pc you would now be faced with either boot repair or full recovery which is a last resort since you likely wouldn't be able to do one other thing. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html

While looking around for alternative solutions for seeing the boot sector repaired I ran across an older BCD thread you may want to go over regarding a similar problem of a corrupt BCD store. The thread can seen at http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/70542-cant-rebuild-bcd.html
