Im trying to install the rc version of windows 7. First off i have an acer aspire 5610-4612. Now I cant even boot from the cd to even begin installation, and yes I've set usb cdrom, the only cd i see and i only have 1 cd rom drive, to the first boot priority. Next off here is a screenshot of my drives. I cant even access any removable devices including my cd rom drive :S. So I cant install from OS either. Im running build 7000 btw. Also when i insert a usb disk i cant access it, i get the same icon as the cd rom drive.

John,

Since I'm going through install problems myself, I can sympathize. Not really a Win 7 expert, but it seems to me your machine may not meet the minimum requirements. You'll need a DVD drive to install the Win 7 DVD. You mention only CD-ROM drives.

Best,

Michael

I'm a musician and a composer, so this PC is used primarily as a digital audio workstation (DAW), so sound is king. I'm also a photographer, so I also make use of it for image processing. I find the ATI Radion on the MoBo to be perfectly adequate in this respect and the AOC 22" monitor to be respectable. It's about time for an upgrade, though.
i do have a dvd rom drive, I did install windows 7 build 7000. But in the bios setup it says usb cd rom so I made that first.

I tried to install windows 7 in PC I have in work but it didn’t work althought I was able to install windws vista. (It was xp when I tried the windows 7 thought).

Ethier upgrading and custom didn’t work and booting for DVD also didn’t work .

I was the OP in a recent thread here regarding BOOTMGR issues trying to install Win7. I tried everything I could think of, and finally tried swapping out the DVD burner with another brand. That took care of the problem. The burner I was having problems with was a new Samsung SH-S222a. Not saying it was bad, just that it and my old machine didn't get along. So, for future reference, I suppose, if you run into problems booting from the DVD, it might be worth the time to try installing a different DVD drive, if you have one available.

Best,
Michael
