Windows 7 installs ask for device drivers..

Bought a SSD for my laptop, wanted to test windows 7 on it to see if i could get working, but every time i try weather its on CD/USB i get the same issue

LOAD DRIVERS

a required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing .....

anyone have an idea of what i can do?

Is the drive detected in BIOS setup?

Where did you get the Win7 installation media? Download or disk source? Tool for USB transfer?

Almost always this means a bad installer, burn another from a fresh ISO using the tool provided in Overcoming Windows 7 Installation Failures - Windows 7 Help Forums .

If this fails work through the other steps starting from the top.

windows 7 premium 64bit DVD media, and i used rufus to "mount" it onto the thumb drive because my laptop does't have an internal Disk Drive

If you're following the troubleshooting steps then it shows how to determine if you have a UEFI BIOS.

If not download a new ISO for your licensed version from the link and write to stick using UltraISO Software To Create Bootable USB Flash Drive

I'm having near identical trouble and have searched for hours for a resolution only noone else seems to have mentioned my specific scenario. When I attempt to install Win 7 via USB on a brand new laptop running Win 8, I get the message during installation that it can't find any drivers. Tried all the standard ideas I've found online (downloading ISO and repeatedly remaking the USB, swapping USB ports etc) but mine is slightly more specific in that when I click browse, I can't find the USB, which leads me to believe it's not reading it... only it has, in order to get to where I'm at. So maybe it's then decided it doesn't want to read it anymore? maybe... I don't know. It's 4am, I'm tired. Any advice though? Is there some way to force it to recognise the usb?

edit: Sorry, I'm very tired. I should be polite, so, hello! and thank you to anyone who can offer some help here. I would very much appreciate this headache going away...

What are the BIOS settings choices related to Secure Boot, CSM, Legacy BIOS? Take camera snaps of every possible choice if possible.

If you want UEFI install did you create stick from Option One of UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows. Are you booting it as UEFI device?

I can't do pics but Secure Boot is off, and have tried CSM and Legacy combinations which eventually allowed me to load setup from the USB up to that point, and yeah, used rufus (3 times on 2 different USBs) UEFI and 'original' (whatever you'd call that). Same results every time.

Oh also, the CSM and Legacy options are simply "Enabled or "Disabled".

Yeah I saw that post while hunting earlier, started to try it and then bailed in fear of wiping 8 (which is working, I just hate it) in case I still couldn't install 7. This laptop is for a friend, who's about 65 and has basically never used a computer before but has a very, and I do mean VERY limited understanding of windows 7. 8 makes no sense to him.

I've been able to Dual Boot like you want any number of times but there are always tricks with the settings. That's why I asked for camera snaps since we can often spot the needed ones. Otherwise we are blind since every mobo is different.

Newest generation of laptops are specifically designed for "Windows 8" and may came only with USB 3.0 ports. Usually all "USB 3.0" ports on a laptop will be permanently set to XHCI mode ( native USB 3 mode ) which is supported out of the box by "Windows 8" but not "Windows 7". I assume that is the situation with your laptop. Try installing from a DVD if there is a functioning optical drive in the machine.

It will help us if you please specify the exact model number of the laptop.

What I have found, is when I "browse" for drivers when I DO find driver's either it will say "windows cannot locate necessary drivers" or the USB will just show the "Boot" option, But I am going to attempt ..

curious about this possibility, Get an HP up and running with a windows, then swap HDD after changing BIOS to support legacy soft? I wonder if that would work or if it would encounter the same issue where it can't locate necessary drives

Like I said I have been able to get it installed or Dual Booted every time with the correct settings which can be tricky. You may find others who've already been through it for your model if you ask Google clearly en ough

Let me know when you are ready to cooperate and we'll solve your problem just like we do everyone else who cooperates. Start at the top and perform the steps you skipped. I'm still waiting to see every BIOS setting for UEFI, CSM. Legacy with choices expanded.

According to the spec, there are four USB ports and all of them are "Super Speed USB 3.0".

The "SuperSpeed" bus provides for a transfer mode at a nominal rate of 5.0 Gbit/s, in addition to the three existing transfer modes. Accounting for encoding overhead, the raw data throughput is 4 Gbit/s, and the specification considers it reasonable to achieve 3.2 Gbit/s (0.4 GB/s or 400 MB/s) or more in practice.[4]

"SuperSpeed USB 3.0" requires XHCI operation mode which is not supported in "Windows 7" by default. Installation of drivers required for these ports to be recognized in "Windows 7".

I tried with USB, and DVD through USB Optical drive, since my laptop does not have a Disk drive...

If the installer can't access the USB ports, it is not going to detect anything connected to them - whether it is USB flash disk or USB optical drive.

Better way is to create a "WinPE 4.0" or "WinPE 5.0" bootable USB which will recognize "USB 3.0" and run "WinntSetup" from it to install "Windows 7". This will be a little difficult for beginners and requires patience but if you are interested, i can provide step by step instructions.
