Recently did a clean install of a 32 bit Windows 7 over a Vista machine. Can connect to the internet randomly. Sometimes rebooting will regain connection, other times rebooting router is required. Seems to be entirely random. An XP computer on the same router will often maintain connectivity but sometimes both are locked out.
Any ideas? TIA

I had a similar problem. It turned out my router was not working with Windows 7 OR my Intel WiFi Link 1000 adapter. I think it was Windows 7. You would think anything compatible with Vista would work, but maybe not in this case.

Are you having trouble with the wireless connectivity or wired?

I had a WRT54GS. It didn't work and Linksys has a list of Windows 7 compatible routers on their site. I got one of those and....sure enough....it works great.

Hi and welcome

You probably are using Homegroup in win 7. homegrouo is for win 7 only networks. For mixed networks you need to use "workgroup" easy to fix. ?Creat a new network using the workgroup model. If it works you can disable IPv6, and kill homegroup

Let us know if you need help

It turns out that by disabling power saving features, internet connectivity is maintained (at least it has for the last 24 hours). I guess I'm not all that disturbed after disabling this feature, but I am curious as to why Microsoft wouldn't offer some type of fix for this? Or am I being naive?
