Windows 7 is changing files to "read only"

I am using PE-Design Next for my embroidery designs. I can download PES files but when I attempt to send to thumb drive I get a message stating it is a "read only" file. Can anyone help please. Thank you!

To take out the read only attribute, select the files, right click - properties - un mark Read only.

What extension has the PES files?
You download them and when you attempt to send to thumb drive you get a message stating it is a "read only" file.
What kind of thumb drive? Is the kind of SD card? If so, it has a switch on it to lock as read only.
