I presume you have many files/folders within the one you are trying to open. I had this issue with my repository of Win7 repair files. 300,000+ of them. It would take 20 minutes for the folder to open and the green line crawled across the top of the window, slowing down as it went.

Easy fix!

Locate the folder that is exhibiting the problem. The easiest way to do this is to be in a directory one level higher than the folder with the issue. Now Click the folder, Click Organize and Click Properties.

You can also access the properties windows by Right-clicking a folder and Selecting Properties from the context menu.

In the properties window, Click the Customize tab. Under the “Optimize this folder for: drop-down menu", Select General Items.

Once you’ve done that, Click OK to save changes.

This is happening even at folders with little files.

The lag it happening at every folder with many or little files.

This is happening even at the windows folder so the solution you suggest i don't believe that work.

Two AVs running at the same time. Are you aware that is not a recommended practice?

1. Which ones please?

There are some programs that work together. I run Avast free, Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit & Malwarebytes Anti-Ransomware AE and AR are standalone products. If you download and run the latest version of Malwarebytes Anti- Malware and use it, it deletes the standalone, therefore I use an older version. Malwarebytes Premium (paid version) will run alongside most if not all Anti-Viruses and is recommended if you wish to to utilize paid for products. I don't wish to pay for anything that free programs can accomplish as well.

Running Emsisoft Anti-Malware & Anti-Virus Software with any other Anti programs usually causes sever issues, from my experience.

Antivirus programs do not usually play well together, and running two at the same time will often lead to one singling out the other as a virus, or in some cases, even cause file corruption.

Please peruse
Why Using Multiple Antivirus Programs is a Bad Idea ...

2. Have you run sfc /scannow from Administrative CMD? SFC is (System File Checker).

Suggest you disable one of your AVs. Click the start orb, lower left of your screen, type CMD, right-click it, choose run as administrator, copy and paste
sfc /scannow
at the > use mouse, ctrl+v does not work within CMD environment.
If you receive any prompts, follow them. when it completes, download and run SFCFix.exe by Niemiro from your desktop. A log will appear on your desktop & open, if no corruptions are found excellent, if so let us know.

Try opening a folder you have issues with.

Something that has been done on both systems is the culprit being that you report the same issue on two separate machines.

As I tallied before is has lag at any folder.

I have try to delete one of anti virus program and it isn't that too try to disable the net throttling from registry it isn't that to.
I try even to delete every anti-virus / mail ware program to still doesn't resolve the lag.

You have this kind of lag at your windows 7??

And if you. Do what you do to eliminate it?

Thank your for fully answering some of my questions.

Net throttling has nothing to do with your folder opening issues. Being that you are having the same issue on two computers you say, it is something that has been done or not to your systems, both of them.

You didn't say if you ran sfc /scannow and sfcfix.exe and what the results were.

Those to applications will attempt to locate and repair missing or corrupt system files.
sfcfix does more than sfc /scannow. In addition it checks CBS log, Persist log, and creates a report that is placed on your desktop and automatically opened. Simple programs to run.

That is the first place to start in making sure your system has no corrupt or missing system files, as well as repair/replacement files.

Have you looked at the processes running, your RAM & CPU usage?

You answered the question: How full are your drives? with the drive name not how full they are. The closer you get to the drive being full, the slower the performance.

Another possible issue is junk accumulation on your drive. Have you ever run Disk Cleanup?

BTW: Are you currently running Firefox? I ask because all of your paragraphs on your post are double spaced between them. It is not related to your issue however, I was asking because I had the same thing happening to me. I corrected it by applying a tweak to the Firefox About:config settings.

Questions

  1. Did you run sfc /scannow and sfcfix?
  2. How full are your drives?
  3. Have you ever or do you run disk cleanup?
  4. Have you looked at the processes running, your RAM & CPU usage? If so, is your RAM close to being totally used, or CPU running near 100%?
  5. How many programs including background programs are running from Startup?

Bolded text is may be an issue.
Disk Cleanup is a built in Microsoft utility to clean unwanted, unnecessary collection of data on your drive that, over time, clutters your OS and slows it down.
If you type disk cleanup in your search box, click :orb: and in textbox start typing disk cleanup. It will open with several choice as to what you wish to choose to clean/delete. It does not clean/delete your programs, personal files, folders, pictures etc. It is much safer than say CCleaner which is a 3rd party application. Microsoft also provides additional options however they are not accessable from the standard disk cleanup menu. They are Disk Cleanup Extended, & Disk Cleanup Very Low Disk. I have batch scripts that access those, and you may have copies if you wish.

I use disk cleanup very low disk when performing a repair install/in place upgrade. It removes much more that the standard disk cleanup, including windows update junk, memory dumps, bsod, and more. The reason I use it, is when you perform a repair install/in place upgrade, doing that creates a file titled Windows.old. I don't want that to be larger than it has to be and including all that extra data slows the entire process of the repair install/in place upgrade. It can make quite a bit of difference in how long the repair install/in place upgrade takes to complete.

Here's a good explanation

disk cleanup extended from SevenForums
Disk Cleanup : Extended - Windows 7 Help Forums

Explanation of all
Disk Cleanup Cleanmgr Command Line Arguments in ...

My batch scripts from my OneDrive
Disk Cleanup Extended & Disk Cleanup Very-Low-Disk.zip

If you run SFCFix.exe it will tell you where the files are that sfc /scannow cannot fix, and may repair them if the repair files are available in the winsxs folder. Quite often the are not.

I have 300,000+ Windows files in my repository.

Being that you haven't completely filled out your system specs, I don't know if your OS is x32 or x64, therefore here are both SURT tools. I automated the process to save you mistakes and frustration. They check your system for issues. They identify and try to repair the issues remaining that sfc /scannow and sfcfix don't fix, creates a CheckSUR.log, and copies it to your desktop.
You are most likely having issues, missing or corrupt system files, those being, cat/mum pairs, or manifests.

One of my 3 pc's has the normal mechanicl hdd.
And this is the worse at win7 lag pc system.

Me i use 'Revo uninstaller pro" and advanced method every time i uninstalll something of any of my pc's so all "cabrage" files even registry values is cleaned from that program.

But i don't thing the win7 lag is cause the no fragment of hdd.
Cause even at pc's with ssd that doesn't neet defragment as normal mechanicl hdd still have win7 lag so.....

If your OS has missing or corrupt system files that is an issue, never the same, due to the thousands of system files that could be effected. Hard links to those files have to be in tact when access to them is required. If any are broken, there could be no issues apparent now, however, they do not fix themselves and from experience, the problems get worse until you start noticing them. Quite often the first indication is that Windows Update won't work.

I've perused CheckSUR.logs with thousands of corrupt and/or missing folders and files.

I have a IT business phone call right now.
I'll be off the forum for a few. 1/2 to an hour or so.
:D

BTW: never defrag an SSD, it's not needed and places unnecessary wear/use on the Solid State Drive.
HDD has a platter and that needs to be defraged occasionally.

fits79,

I disagree with your assessment that Window Updates cause more problems that it solves. Of all my posts guessing 2,500 on Windows Update issues.

As I stated do not defrag an SSD, it is not needed and most of the time Windows will recognize and SSD and automatically disable auto defrag. Yes, you can manually defrag it but is is not needed and unnecessarily place wear and tear on of your drive. SSD have a limited read/write sequence, some more than others. Solid State Drives are similar to RAM except for the fact that they are not volatile memory as RAM, they are persistent, that is, they retain what is on them with or without power.

I understand that you are not interested in Windows Update, and that never was any focus of my dissertations with you . Do you understand what I said about SURT. It will identify the missing corrupt files in your OS. I am not talking about FIXING windows update. Most tools have more than one use. SURT is a diagnostic tool, and the main purpose is to make sure Win7 will upgrade to Win10. It also saves time perusing a CBS.log that can have 10,000 entries or more looking for an error or many. You don't have any idea how much time that takes.

Then if you have multiple corruptions, I have to manually search my repository for those file. I cannot use the CheckSUR.log because I don't have it. The CheckSUR.log list, at the very bottom of the log, all the unavailable repair files in winsxs folder. And you probably guess it, I have an automated tool that read the CheckSUR.log, locates the exact file, same version, exact same everything and copies it to a folder it creates on my desktop. The folder is named CheckSUR, the subfolder servicing and winsxs, the subfolders within them are in order that I listed the others servicing/Packages, winsxs/manifests. I place the CheckSUR.log on my desktop and click my Find Replacement Files.bat, CMD opens, folders appear on my desktop and notepad. The files I have go in the appropriate checksur subfolder, the ones I don't have, a text entry is placed in notepad and when finished, if there are any I don't have, I know exactly what I have to search for on the Net, or Microsoft Catalog. Sometime it takes a bit to find the correct KB they came from. Then you have to download that KB extract/expand the contents which can be 15,000 files or more and find the exact one. Yes, I have a batch script to do that too.

The purpose of me asking you to run SURT is to identify the specific files that sfc /scannow and or sfcfix cannot repair or replace because those file are missing from the winsxs folder.
Unless your system is free of system errors, I cannot guarantee that the issue you posted here in this thread can be rectified.

Quite often, attempting to rectify a problem without the sfc /scannow and sfcfix from reporting no errors is an exercise in FUTILITY. If I was being paid, no problem, I have clients all over the globe, most listen to those that know more on the subject matter then they do. The ones that don't, well, it gets expensive being that I charge. Depending on the issue, up to $100 per hour, 4 hour minimum.

6 pm here in Michigan, have to make dinner.
