Windows 7 Network server issues

I have a network using Windows 7 Pro and Windows XP Pro Machines. I just built a new server with Windows 7 Pro with a Gigabit network. 1 server (7 Pro) 3 machines (7 Pro) 2 machines (XP Pro). Windows sharing on network on server. DHCP IP for network. I keep loosing the network connection to shared server file. I can ping the server from every machine with no problem. I can not browse to the network or use UNC format from run command to see the server. I can reboot the server and everything is working again. Does Windows 7 have a limit to concurrent connections? And is the server releasing the connections. Every person and shared file has admin rights to read and right to server. ANY THOUGHTS. Thanks JC

No I have not tried that because all machines can ping the server and the server can ping all workstations when this is going on and they can all access the web.

I would defintily put static IPs

It would make it consistant...

If you have DHCP server it does have a lease time on the router. So if the IPS change then more than likely it will looose its connection.

There is an option in the Advance Sharing in the Sharing tab, that lets u select how machine connections are allowed to the share. Check that number.

Put your a static IP <==> Hostname resolution in your HOSTS file to avoid weird things... It'd be a lot better you have a DNS server on the network...

Edit: aem, I think this problem is similar to Jeffs's problem, "Computer Browser" service experiencing temporal insanity...

Using statis IP should eliminate this random disconnections, at least from the endpoints point of view.
