Windows 7 (no KB updates) for production machine (video+photo editing)

Hello everyone,

I am planning to re-install Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on a desktop computer that I will use as a production machine for photo and light-video editing.

I recently starting getting a lot of error messages from processes and drivers not starting up; some of Window's native programs failing to start (Windoes Photo Viewer), as do others which I have installed separately (FastStone Image Viewer).

Although the error messages are not critical, I plan to re-install Windows in the hope that it will be leaner (take up less space), and not bother me with its usual problems:
- the Win 10 upgrade,
- endless scan for updates and reboot,
- and this new wave of errors.

Although all these problems have separate solutions (which I have implemented: I have put Never 10, etc.), I find little use for KB updates, for a computer that is not used for browsing and that is used with a limited suite of software programs. The documentation of the KB updates is also very scant and I feel like I am falling in the trap of chasing the solution to unlikely problems by creating more problems. So, rather than looking for individual fixes to problems each month, I can actually avoid all of them and any future ones in one fell swoop.

To achieve all this, I plan to leave out all the KB updates from Windows Update. I will install the .NET framework, but leave out the "security" updates and all the other rubbish Windows is pushing.

I appreciate that it is a rather radical concept, and that many loyalists argue that the reason for the updates is to protect the user. And that to beging with, the updates were introduced to fix bugs identified by users. But without sounding like a conspiracist, I fear that many of these updates actually benefit MS and less so the user, who is left with more problems after some time. And if these updates were to do with online security, then I probably have little to worry about.

Is this absolutely mad (and stupid), and if so, why is that? Or have people done this already with success?

PS: I don't plan to return to Win XP, because it would be an unnecessary expense.

Try running sfc /scannow(3x)
and as you dont like kbs run this alternative

On a further note regarding updates
The w10 offenders have been pulled as its no longer free
and in windows update settings just set it to never.
updates can be downloaded on a standalone basis, as long as you know what they are and the number
