I have windows 7 and xp. My sound card works well with windows xp but is not even detected by windows 7. I bought an external usb creative sound card and when i plug it in i hear the little noise you get when you plug or unplug a usb but it keeps doing it over and over again. I dual boot with winxp and win 7. And this usb sound card is not detected by either win 7 or xp. I have tried disabling the onboard realtek sound card. Installing drivers etc. still nothing. I have an asus mother board. Is anyone else having trouble with the sound card either onboard or usb external with windows 7???? My onboard sound works fine with xp but not windows 7. the usb external sound card doesn't work with either OS.

Did you try installing the drivers? Sometimes hardware will show up as a unknown device in device manager, or not show up at all. Running the driver setup program may kick it into gear so windows can figure out what it is. I have an Asus M2N68-AM SE2 µATX Motherboard, running windows 7 Home Premium x64. No problems with the sound. I can't remember if 7 saw it right away or not. I've installed the Asus drivers anyway. There is a Realtek HD Audio Manager icon in my control panel.

Did you try installing the drivers?

Yes I ran the cd for the new usb sound card and still nothing. I installed every driver imaginable and still nothing. I cannot figure this out. I've uninstalled drivers, disabled on board sound card. I even installed vista drivers, creative drivers, asus drivers, update the firmware installed realtek drivers. Go figure.

OK, well I don't know what to tell you. For me if I have a working Internet connection I get the latest and greatest drivers on line at the manufacturers web site. I only use the bundled CD if I have to. The drivers on it are almost always outdated and you aren't likely to find windows 7 drivers at all. Vista driver usually work but if I can find better I'll use them. Whats the model number of your motherboard? If you want to get some better info to fill out your system specs have a look at this sticky thread. http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/6936-dont-know-what-hardware-you-have.html

Your right. I was looking for the link in the link you sent for the mother board specs. But that one doesn't work only the one for the sound card.

Um, I'm still not sure what you are referring to? I have no way of knowing what your motherboard is as you haven't filled in your system specs or posted it to this thread. The link I posted links to a sticky that should help you figure out what hardware you have. Once you know the make and model number of your motherboard you can go to the manufacturers web site and look for drivers. Another way to do it is to open up your case and have a look. The model number should be printed on the motherboard. The onboard sound driver should show up in the list of drivers for your motherboard. You said you are dual booting XP and windows 7 so I'm guessing it ddin't come with windows 7 installed. You might want to download and run the windows 7 upgrade advisor. If you onboard sound isn't suppoted by windows 7 it will tell you. You can get it here: Windows 7 Compatibility: Software Programs & Hardware Devices: Find Updates, Drivers, & Downloads
