Hey all,

Recently there was a power outage around here and, obviously, the power went out. When I restarted my computer I noticed that there was no sound at the starting menu. (When you first turn on the computer) There is absolutely no sound, not even when playing music or videos. When I click on the sound tab, located on the right-hand side bottom of the screen, it only says, "Line-1" and "HDMI" there is no "speakers" symbol. I've literally tired everything to fix it. Hope I've given enough information. Please help.

Is your speaker phono lead pushed fully home?

Everything is connected properly. I've tried updating the drivers, running a diagnostic on the speakers and restarting the computer.

In that case, I can only assume the power outage did some damage.

Are you using onboard sound or a dedicated sound card?

Well you can pull the panel off the side of your computer and see where your lead is plugging into and see if the sound card is a removable sound card if it is try reseating it in the slot with the computer shut down of course..

Then you may have to consider that your motherboard may have been damaged by the power outage.

Damage can occur in this scenario if your power supply and your computer aren't protected by a surge protector.

It looks as though you may have a damaged audio output device on the motherboard. If you can get yourself a sound card for pci slot if you have empty slots on your board and install a sound card and go from there. Probably not what you wanted to hear but it's less expensive than a new motherboard providing that the outage didn't do anymore damage to it.

To the OP. If you don't have surge protector I would also suggest getting one.

Alright, thanks. I'll talk to my computer buddies. One of my friends built his computer so he'll know what to do. These answers defiantly beat Microsoft's answer.."We can most surely fix this problem you are having sir, we will transfer you to our technicians but you will need to pay $59.99." No joke.
