Windows 7 not booting up. pls HELP

Sector repair may cause a few lost files & maybe a lot of saved files. Erase disk will wipe out everything & you start with a totally blank HD. Sector first, then you still have the option to do Erase later if needed.

I would try to F for FIX or REPAIR if you want..see what others say...You mentioned earlier that you didn't care about data loss, you can always retieve lost data by software later if you want too...GET MY DATA BACK is a good one..but take one thing at a time..

I figured it was a HDD issue as I have seen many come to me to be repaird or checked. Some do to power surges and others with similar issues and symptoms as the one you describe, that is why I said to check the HDD out. Once you fix/repair the bad sector, you should be able to get back up and running, and without losing much (if any) data.

YAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!....FIXED :D...i'm like so happy right now *Jumping*

It was 3am when i slept off yesterday just after selecting "Sector repair"...then i woke up this morning to find the system switched off. Loaded the DFT disk again to run the advance test again which lasted about an hour, then i got the information that the test was successful without any error...I then Rebooted with the installation disk and to my surprise, it went past the blank screen :D, then i clicked repair, that took sometime, then i had to restart without the disk and it worked PERFECTLY....WITHOUT EVEN LOSING ANY FILE....atleast as far as i know of for now.....

HOW CAN I THANK YOU GUYS ENOUGH.....GOSH, I was seconds away from paying £45 to have it fixed (loosing files aswel) yesterday from a local shop. THANKS AGAIN GUYS...

I'll still buy the Adapter cable nevertheless btw, Just to own one. :P

Ordered one :P. Tnkx. I havent used one before, but it makes sense that its the BEST way to work specifically on an hard disk (either to check for errors or anything) since it would just be treated like an external HDD...or USB stick...so yh, definitely worths every dime

My laptop ran out of battery power, i restarted it, but it gave me the information; "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause". I was given the option to either 'Launch startup repair' or 'Start windows normally'...If I select 'Launch startup repair', it leads me to a blank screen with a cursor then stays there until forever, if i select 'Start windows normally', it leads me to the Microsoft logo/'Starting windows' and just stays there for a while until it restarts.

I pressed F8 to access the safe mode page, but all the options in that page just ends up with a black screen with a moving cursor. 'Safe mode' option itself loads all the drivers until it gets to Atipcie.sys, stays there for a while and just restarts....

I tried using the installation disk, pressed a key when i was prompted to do so, but it stops just after the Microsoft logo/'Starting windows' page , gets to a blank screen with cursor and just stay there until forever (meaning i cant access the 'Repair', 'Fresh install' or any other option on the disk whatsoever) . The same things happens if i use the repair disk aswell.

So now, i'm fully stuck, i dont mind loosing my files, i just want to get this computer back to work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for keeping this thread alive..I have the same thing happening to me now..i already booted from cd but the thing is,dft does not recognize the bad drive, it just shows a list that is empty..but bios recognizes the drive as a 160gb drive, which it is..what to do now? Id appreciate any help..thank you eveyone!
