I have a very odd problem.

When I try to open Windows 7 Home Premium, it sticks on a black screen with white lettering like the
one you get when you have closed it down badly. It advises either to use Delete Key which enters BIOS or F11 to enter set up. Neither will work.

In desperation I put in the Macrium Rescue USB HD I created and tried again and this time it booted up
but not into Macrium but into normal Windows up to date set up.

I don`t know where to go from here as I fear this solution may not work indefinitely. Everything seems to be working ok except that I have not been able to use Event Viewer or Event Log for some time.

Thankyou. I had already tried sfc /scannow which came up with "no problems". I ran check disk today and it also said no problems except "could not get a handle on Event Viewer). I removed the Macrium Recovery Media HD from the computer yesterday after a while, and Windows booted as normal until I did a restart. Then I had the same problem again but again inserting the Macrium Recovery HD enable me to boot it up as normal. I ran the Scan option with Chk Dsk.

I have taken a snip shot of the Disk Man details but I do not have the paper clip icon on this message menu. I am trying to send as an image but do not have the URL as far as I know. Can you advise please ?

This morning computer failed altogether to reboot (again after I did a restart this time following changing a drive letter). I had previously affixed E to the Macrium Recovery USB HD and G to the Toshiba Backup Destination HD. Computer was reversing this so I changed them back again and re-started. Then computer refused to boot at all even with the Recovery HD in. My husband disconnected the External HDs and it started. (I had previously tried this and it had made no difference). Unfortunately he disconnected the HDs without using the proper EJECT mechanism and my Macrium Recovery Disk is wrecked. I think I had better not try to reformat it until you have advised me if I can do anything about the present messup.

When I try to open windows I get a black screen which goes from 9C to B4 to A? can`t remember and instructs to press Delete Key for Set Up and F11 for boot. (Previously the Delete Key opened BIOS not Fll). Computer then says No Signal and eventually starts the same cycle again. Eventually F11 brings up a Menu showing a list of the drives etc. available with Enter Setup at the foot. I select my Internal Hard Drive from the list. I am not sure whether I am suppose to double click on the drive selected and wait, or press Set Up as well or by itself. In any case nothing useful happened afterwards whichever I try. The whole sequence just started again.

I tried switching off completely including the power, and switching back on but that made no difference either.

2 days later: my husband took all attachments out of the USB ports, we switched off the printers, and it suddenly worked. We have no idea why because I had already tried this. It is now functioning normally apart from Event Viewer missing. That belongs in a new thread so I am marking this solved though I have no idea how !
