Don't worry i'm here.

And yes, reporting from my New desktop, thanks for the help Chev65. It was indeed that driver that sparked the network card into life.

Although now i'm online the internet is seriously slow, again unsure of the reason, maybe you guys would know?
I only have 2 bars signal on my wireless connection due to my position in the house, althoguh my laptop runs at perfect speeds from exactly the same spot.
Is this because I have a cheaper wireless card? Is it worth upgrading, I only spent £12 ($20) on my current one? I'm a Warcraft player and after spending a few minutes trying to log on, I cast 1 spell and get disconnected, with a latency of 700MS+.
Webpages are taking 2 minutes to load, with it being impossible to even access shopping sites such as Amazon and Play.

Thanks for all the great advice!

Well at least the driver worked for you although that adaptor is outdated a bit I think, at least we confirmed the problem to be the adaptor and got it working. :)

As for the slow speed, two bars doesn't sound too good to me and it would certainly work better if there were more bars showing. The new routers using wireless N tend to put out a much stonger signal and are faster although your wireless G should work fine.

It may be the postion of the antenna. Sometimes changing channels helps on the router. Other times switching to different security can speed things up hard to say but two bars isn't a very good signal and I wouldn't expect too much from it.

All you can do is experiment with different settings or use a different adaptor or router and see what works best.

Thanks again Chev, will enabling my IPv6 do anything to help?

Well the IPv6 protocol is used for Homegroup networks on the LAN, so it's not going to speed things up but I wouldn't disable it unless you have too.

All you can do it try another wireless adaptor or router and see if anything changes. With only two bars I wouldn't expect very good network speeds.

He is absolutly correct.

Another thing that you got to look at in your house is how many 2.4 ghz devices you have in your house. Telephones, ect.... that could be something. Usually when another 2.4 interferes it will kick the other one off, cause interference... which is bad/weak signal.

Like the old saying goes... You get what you paid for. You buy a desktop/laptop all in one built and its pretty cheap then you can expect what you paid for.

for example... I got an HP desktop and I had to buy a new video card after a few months cause the fan on the Video card went bad on it. for some reason, that is just known with HP desktops.. it did it to my dad's as well.

That is why i was very careful when i setup my network. My wireless home phones are DEC 6.0, my wireless is 2.4.. and majority of my network is hard wired. I absolutly have no problems.

The best thing about american... you know best buy, if you still have a circuit city or even if you want to be a little cheap... you can go to walmart, pick yourself up another Wireless NIC card and test out the signal to your router and then bring it back for your money if you don't like it. The customer service is great!

but defintily i would check the channels first and position of the attennas. Another thing you can do if your router supports it is go to radio shack and pick up a higher gain attenna.

Hey both of you.

Bought a new wireless USB dongle today, and my network signal instantly shot up to the full 5 bars where it has remained all day (A couple of drops to 4).

But i'm still having a problem with slow internet and incredible slow World of Warcraft, I'm literally in the "red" lag zone all the time, with an incredibly high MS. I'm seriously not sure what the problem is, my laptop running vista gets on average 40-80MS whilst my desktop with W7 is getting 1,000+ sometimes up to 8,000. Which is obviously unplayable. It has been the same since I first tried to play it.

Thanks for the help in advance, and for previous help.

I just make sure everything is up to date:

Drivers for Video Card...

Shut down programs if you can... I was playing left 4 dead and it was using about 560 of ram

umm update your Direct X

Sound card things like that.. every possible thing that your game woudl use.

If you have any other questions. we do have a Forum for gaming...

I would try to reset the router and start from scratch just to take the router out of the equation. Connections that slow usually show up as limited connectivity when you check them in Device Manager.

You might try to roll the driver back and foward again in Device Manager. It could also be that the updated driver from Realtek is not working correctly, that driver just came out and probably wasn't tested very well. Using a new wireless adaptor might even be a better option.

Also that Realtek site is pretty slow. It might be worth downloading the file again but make sure your not using some download manager of any type. Just use IE and maybe try the second link this time. I can't imagine why Realtek would put out a Windows 7 driver that doesn't work right.

Thanks both, and I posted the question in gaming too.

Chev, I said in the previous post that i have indeed bought a new Wireless card, well dongle, and disabled the wireless card, I will try restarting the router, although the problem is only on my PC? Everything else runs fine. Thanks for the other advice i'll give it a go, it just seems like my internet is so incredibly slow on the PC and i'm having to reply to everything on my laptop. The internet is running pretty darn slow also, not really sure whats up!

Probably just something simple like a bad install of download of the driver, hard to say for sure. If it stays slow try clearing the cmos on the problem PC which sometimes helps with eithernet problems.

Here's results from my laptop.

And I would copy and paste the results from my PC but i can't, so here are the written results:

Desktop Results -

Download : 1.30mbp/s
Upload 0.02mbp/s
Ping : 1002ms.

Laptop Results -

Download 1.85mbp/s
Upload : 0.04mbp/s
Ping : 93ms.

Both the laptop and the PC are right next to each other.

As you can see some serious differences.

need help big time!
just updated my sony vaio from vista to Win 7 and cant access the internet wirelessly!
can access via ethernet cable no probs!
my driver is a intel (R) 5100 AGN, have updated it via intel website.
spoken to my isp and they guided me through changing my DNS numbers manually, which worked for ten minutes, then they reverted back to auto mode by thereselves.
Have changed my security settings from WPA to WPA 2 to try this as read somewhere on web that this may work , but to no avail.

my wireless connection is looks fine between router and and lap top but no internet connection exists.

Well I mentioned earlier about antenna postions making a difference. You are probably going nearly out of range but one more block like a wall or body is enough to slow the connection way down. The ping sure changed when you did that and the speeds were better also so the antenna position seems to be important here.

You might try to move the router around, higher or lower maybe and see if anything changes.

Well DX10 is usually required for most newer games to run correctly although I'm not sure how it would effect the wireless connection. You will usually get prompts to install DX10 when your installing the game I would think.
