A few months back we got a new router for our home and that's where the trouble started. My computer (desktop with a wifi card Asus PCE-n15) wouldn't connect right away but after a few minutes it unexpectedly would and the connection would be steady and fast. That is unless the computer went to sleep or I had to restart. Then I'd have to go through the waiting game again.

After a recent restart I can see the connections and the signal strength looks fine but nothing I do can make me connect. Other wifi devices in the same area can connect no problem. Any and all help is appreciated I do freelance web design and it's my only windows machine so I'm kinda stressing out.

Many people have trouble with the driver on the ASUS site.
Try the driver from the Realtek site. (RTL8192CE-VA4)
Install the driver from the device manager.

Thanks for the advice, I've uninstalled the driver for the card twice now. The first time I installed with the Asus driver then after hearing about the issues some people had with them online I installed the Realtek driver. I did get the card to see the network sometimes, it even connected for a little over a hour before losing the signal.

Normally I consider myself to be a pretty tech savvy guy but this network stuff makes me feel like a moron. If you guys have any other suggestions let me know otherwise I think I might just buy a new card and see if that helps.

What type of security is the router set up for?

You should be using WPA-2 with AES encryption. Have you tried to reset the router?

Have you tried to turn off the wireless filter in the AVG settings?

It might be useful to others if you could explain in more detail.
What kind of hardware issue and what you did to solve the issue?

I assume he means the router was at fault. Or his wifi adapter.

We will never know......
