Solved Windows 7 not recognizing size of new hard drive?

The good news: I was able to successfully replace my ailing 750gb hard drive with a 1TB hard drive.
The better news: I was even able to restore from a windows image backup!

One problem -- when I right-click "properties" to check the available space on my drive, it still shows used and free data in relationship to the old drive, not the new one. Is there a way to "relcalibrate" or reset Windows to recognize the size of the new drive?

Hello wgrayson,

When you restore a system image, it will restore the HDD (partitions and partition sizes and all) exactly as it was when the image was created to the new HDD. Most likely the space is still there, but "unallocated" due to this.

For now, please post a screenshot showing the full layout of your Disk Management to make sure, then we'll go from there.

If I remember correctly, I just right clicked on the Unallowcated and it entended it to the C: drive

Yep, that's what it was. You can use the tutorial below to extend C: into the unallocated space to add it all to C.
