Had to reset Linksys WRT610N Dual Band router. Since then Windows 7 not seeing the 5ghz signal, which it used to, but does see 2.4ghz. Other laptop sees both bands so not the router. Deleted both the wireless profile and local access profile in Network & Sharing Panel. Still, maybe legacy issues?

Thank you. So that others know what has been tried:
1. The wireless switch is on, as indicated by the fact that the laptop sees the 2.4 ghz band.
2. I am approx 5 feet from the router so the 2.4. ghz has the strongest possible signal.
3. There is no interference as the lack of seeing the 5 ghz problem has persisted for over a day and because prior to the reset it worked for over a year with no problem
4. I have turned off devices connecting to either 24 ghz or 5 ghz so the router is not busy
5. The router is set to broadcast its SSID.
6. I am at home so this is not an issue of a the network being blocked by administrator. Plus, the 5 ghz was working before I reset it.
7. The wireless network adapter is not in monitor mode as indicated by my ability to connect to the 2.4 ghz band.
8. I believe that windows is configured to the right type of network due to being able to connect on the 2.4 ghz band and because it was working before the reset.

I am thinking that there is some setting, possibly in the registry, that is causing Windows to not be able to see the 5 ghz band. Possibly from Linksys, possibly from the previous profile?

I would think more along the lines of a particular service being disabled or not set correctly to cause this problem but I have no idea which service might cause this problem to occur.

I would go through all the services that relate to networking, make sure they are set to either manual or automatic.

Tried the solutions, even though my problem is a bit different, didn't work. My issue is that before I reset the Linksys WRT610N my computer saw both the 5ghz and 2.4ghz band. When I reset the router my laptop--with Windows 7 64 bit--no longer sees the 5ghz at all, not just intermittently, it never registers in any way that there is a 5ghz signal being sent out, even though other devices I have do see it.

The reason I'm posting in a Windows forum is because I'm guessing there is some sort of left over registry entry, or profile, or... that is causing the laptop to not see what is there.

Thanks, really need to fix this.

What are the odds that the reason why I had to reset the router in the first place--internet speeds slowing way down--was due to a failure in whatever sends out the 5 ghz signal? I'm not sure why the iPad still sees a 5 ghz signal after the router reset, while a new laptop, old laptop, new wireless N printer and iPhone all don't, but would note that one of the symptoms that caused me to reset the router was that the iPad would show full signal strength until I went online and then it would drop to the lowest signal strength and pages would take minutes to load, and often times fail.

FYI, before the reset, all laptops, print server, Apple devices, etc. were connected to the 5 ghz. The fact that after the reset all but the iPad can't see that signal still seems a little too coincidental, but I'm running out of options. Any thoughts?

FYI2, warranty on the WRT610N bought for $170 ran out 19 days before the problem. Hopefully Linksys will stand behind their top of the line router.

Think I may have found the problem. Bought a new Netgear router, same symptoms as above, so bought a Netgear USB Dual Band Adapter, and voila! 5 ghz and 2.4 ghz showing! Which means that the problem is in the Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter which is the internal radio for the Asus N71JQ.

So, question now is, anyone know best way to get a new wireless adapter to put in the Asus and how to put it in? Thanks for the help.
