Windows 7 Perceived Bugs & Glitches List

My nr1. update/fix priority is not a bug but a conscious moronic choice by MS,
and it bugs the hell out of me. :sarc:

It's the absence of an overlay icon to show if a folder is shared.
I have to click on every single folder to see whether it's shared or not.
(

Absolutely agree with you here. BRING BACK THE SHARING HAND on shared folders. Get rid of the "lock" on folders; I don't even understand what it's for. ;)

When I installed my old HP 1100 Laserjet using a parallel port PCI card on LPT 2, Win 7 found the right drivers and installed it. It works fine but doesn't show in Devices and Printers but does show in Print Management in Admin Tools. The only way I could make this printer share and be the default was to use Printer troubleshooter which listed the printer as installed. When I added my Epson CX3200 it appeared correctly in Devices and Printers. Devices and Printers appears to be buggy down below

This drives me nuts. When navigating in Windows Explorer, if you double click a folder in the left pane to expand it, the folder you double clicked stays stationary and its contents expand below it. This what you would expect.

However, if you continue double clicking to expand a folder in the left pane, the folder moves from under your mouse down to the bottom of the pane. Any folder you double click from then on jumps down close to the bottom of the left pane instead of staying stationary and simply expanding under your cursor like you would expect.

If you double click a folder in the right pane to expand it, its twin in the left pane also jumps to the bottom of the left pane.

OMG, this drives me nuts too! I hope MS will fix it in SP1.

Another thing that drives me nuts is that the mouse scroll wheel only works in some windows but not others. I cannot stand this; I am so used to using the wheel!!

I'm pretty happy overall, but:

7. And my #1: Device manager will show an item and say there is no driver loaded. If you click on the driver tab, there is one loaded, yet the hardware doesn't work. Seven will then not allow you to load the driver that makes the hardware work. ????

Just dumb, stupid things. :D

I keep running into this problem over and over. Now that I have many Windows 7 installs done. Please oh please MS fix this!

I am not sure understand what you are asking: The message Windows 7 gives? The message that item #7 above gives? And by consult do you mean follow up, review or explore what it said?

There are no messages given, there is no troubleshooting options given or if it does it just tells you to install the driver, with no way to install one. If you look at the driver you see it is NOT working but in fact there is a drive installed. With no way to update it.

I have been get this bug on an off for the last week. when I click on a desktop item or folder in the explorer is asks me if i wont to delete it. when trying to click no for the conformation more conformation screens pop up. The only way I have found to close them is to use task manager and the just diaper when clicked on.

I don't think this is a virus as it was happening before I even went wireless

Windows 7 files disappearing

I am using Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit.

Files will suddenly disappear from the Desktop or from folders on the Desktop for no apparent reason.

Example 1:
I am editing a text file in EditPlus3. I save it to the Desktop. I go later to the Desktop to edit the file and it is gone. I open EditPlus3 and click File > Recent Files and the files are on the list and they do open. I just can't see them on the Desktop.

Workaround:
I open Windows Explorer, then navigate to C:\[username]\Desktop (NOT Libraries\Desktop). I can see the files here. I create a new folder on my Desktop (the actual Desktop ... not the folder being displayed in Windows Explorer), then I drag the files from the Windows Explorer window into the new folder, then drag them out of the new folder onto the Desktop. Now I can see the files.

Example 2:
I have a folder on my Desktop where I store a file and some sub-folders with more files. Today I open the folder and it is empty. They are just gone.

Workaround:
Do the same workaround as above - open Windows Explorer, then navigate to C:\[username]\Desktop (NOT Libraries\Desktop), create a new folder on the Desktop, drag the files from the Windows Explorer window into the new folder, then drag them out of the new folder back into their original location in the folder on the Desktop. Now you should be able to access the disappeared files.

It seems like the problem lies with Libraries\Desktop. Files either disappear or, in the case of .eml files saved from Outlook Express, I am unable to move, delete or rename them unless the folder is opened via the C-drive file system.

Most people navigate from the convenient Libraries link on the left sidebar navigation pane. A lot of people don't know what a C-drive is or how to navigate to the user files down through the file system.

Windows, dialog boxes, and message boxes that should have current focus loose focus and are hidden behind other windows.

This drives me nuts! to say the least, especially in some apps that have a pop-up message box waiting for a Yes, No response, but the window that is covering it can not be moved out of the way, (or cycle using tab or any other method)...

Many times,Win 7 falsely says "not responding" (on the top),but practically,if you allow it time,it will recover itself.Actually it should say "wait,i am working hard!" ...something like that !
MS is too much skeptic about "not responding" till now.:o

Sometimes when I click on a file I get multiple " are you sure you want to move the File/folder/shortcut to the recycle bin"

also sometime after I have typed text it backspace's it all to the last period. I have lost entire pages an post to this bug.

the only remedy seems to be using the task manager and the close but just clicking on them.

could this be a mouse/keyboard bug or do I have something more evil.

I want to second or third the dumb decision to get rid of the overlay designating a shared folder, it drives me insane. Also, haven't seen anyone else note this - if I drag and drop to a network folder, the default action for some ridiculous reason is move, not copy. I keep losing files that way to other computers on the network when all I want to do is copy them over.

Internet Explorer 8 is very unstable in Windows 7 64 bi

Internet Explorer 8 is very unstable. It locks up unexpectedly. There can be an aged open window with a web page that was working fine. It sits there for awhile unattended. I click on the title bar after awhile and it locks up (I see the spinning mouse pointer). I have to use Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up the Task Manager to kill the program. This happens 4 or 5 times per day for me.

Seems to be an odd problem, a MS program being unstable on a MS OS, have you tried uninstalling IE8 and reinstalling it? (see link below for uninstall)

How do I uninstall or remove Internet Explorer 8?

I'm using Win 7 64 bit too but I use FF 3.6.3 as my browser, I hardly ever use IE these days unless I come across the odd web page that isn't FF friendly.
