My network at home is a mix of Mac's and PC's. So when I decided to start messing with Windows 7 on the box that I was using for print sharing I as well as file sharing I didn't realize that I would have such a hard time using my Win 7 box to share printers with my Mac's. Has anyone else had any experience trying to share on win 7 box to Mac's? I have been able to find shared files but for some reason my Mac's will not find the printers? I've done just about everything I can think of and the Mac's just don't seem to see any printers.

How are you trying to add the printer to the Mac? I have just tried this myself and haven't had a problem?

The only thing I can recomend is downloading the Mac driver onto your machine and selecting that during the installation process.

I have just shared my printer connected to my Windows 7 laptop, and connected to it using my iMac (running 10.5.8), using the Print & Fax option in System Prefs. During the installation I had to specify a Mac specific driver - but apart from that didn't have a problem.

I don't have iTunes or any Apple software installed on my laptop at the moment, so it isn't sharing through Bonjour.

Ok so I've been able to add the printer to my mac but when I try to print a test page I get this message in the status of my print job "On Hold (Authentication required)" so now the question is how do I authenticate?

Ok, got it now. I just grabbed the most up to date driver for the mac. When I installed the printer I used the advanced tab and that did it working for both of my macs now.

Sharing printer attached to MAC from wireless windows 7

My printer is attached to the MAC, and the Windows 7 PC is wireless. Thank goodness the PC has not had connection problems to the network, but I don't see the printer on the MAC (or see the MAC itself). What do I need to do?

When you say "downloading mac driver on to your machine" can I assume you mean the Windows 7 machine not the Mac? I have a new Windows 7 netbook that is wireless and a Mac running Leopard that my printer is connected to. I have not been able to successfully share the printer with the wireless Windows machine.

I'm also experiencing the (authentication required) error when I'm trying to print from my Mac running 10.6.4 to the Windows 7 box that is supposed to be my new print server. I read some other forums and it seems like it's a communication problem between Mac and Windows. I would be interested to hear more about your solution SkrivyD. I have the current driver for the printer on both the windows machine and my mac. I'm really lost here as I know next to nothing about Windows and as much as I know about Mac I don't seem to know enough to make this work. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Pez

Hey Pezunion20004,

I am experiencing the exact same issue: trying to print from a mac to a printer installed on a windows 7 box. all drivers are up to date and I keep get the "print job on hold (authentication require) just as you describe. did you ever figure out resolution to this issue? I would appreciate you passing along anything you learned.

Thanks,
RS
