Hi guys, have followed the tuit but the compatability report stalls with the report stating " Windows 7 cannot be upgraded to windows 7" or words to that effect.
When doing the little white lie trick by setting compatability as Vista service pack 2 the following compatability report states"To upgrade you must run Win 7 with service pack 1, close the installation and check for updates of service pack 1" .
My 32bit disc include service pack 1. Can any one direct me around the problem or is a clean install the answer ?

Thanks for the promt reply.
With Compatabilty set as Windows 7.
Run as Admin
Installation type- Upgrade.
Compatability report- To upgrade you need to be running Windows 7 with service pack1 installed. Close the installation and open windows update and check updates for service pack 1.
I am running Service pack 1 and have auto update turned on and no critical updates outstanding.
This is as far as I get each attempt.

I built the tower my self Intel i5 3470 3.2g
Has worked perfectly for 9 months. I believe (even though I have AVAST internet security) as I use torrents occasionally that windows has been corrupted.
Windows restore has no effect.

The reason I'm here is because I do not know. If not compatability mode "Windows 7 " what should it be ?

To upgrade, you need to be running Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 installed. Close the installation, open Windows Update, and then check updates for Service Pack 1.

My dvd / cd has Service pack 1, this is the original installation disc.

What were the results of Updates Reset and SFC which Kaktussoft gave you to run? I would also run a full scan first with Malwarebytes

It might actually save time if you back up your files, delete all partitions to run a Clean Install Windows 7.

This time stick with the sames tools and methods in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
to get and keep a perfect install. If you're running torrents regularly then I would add in addition to MSE the MBAM Real Time protection which will keep out intruders.

Thanks Greg. SFC/SCANNOW resulted in No integrity errors.
Ran the MALWAREBYTES found 7, rebooted but my issue was not corrected. That being My GPS and other similar programs will not update. Message says " Check your internet connections".
Guess a clean install it must be.

Having the exact same problem

I've been having the exact same issues cocomo did a year ago.
Kaktussoft... you all discuss this as if a non-destructive installation of W7 is possible, however I've never been able to complete one. Error message is always the same:

"Windows 7 Professional cannot be upgraded to Windows 7 Professional. You can choose to install a new copy of Windows 7 Professional instead, but this is different from an upgrade, and does not keep your files, settings, and programs. You’ll need to reinstall any programs using the original installation discs or files. To save your files before installing Windows, back them up to an external location such as a CD, DVD, or external hard drive. To install a new copy of Windows 7 Professional, click the Back button in the upper left-hand corner, and select “Custom (advanced)”.

I'm trying to avoid a full reinstall from scratch because I cannot locate all the original CDs and keys from all the software I've loaded over the last few years. You all make this non-destructive install sound so possible, why is it so impossible for me to do? I've got SP1 installed on the computer, and the ISO file I'm attempting to load is W7Pro SP1. I've tried the setup in Vista SP2 compatibility mode (another suggestion found on the net.) I've tried everything I can think of.

Have you tried uninstalling your AV and turning off all Startup items in msconfig>Startup and >Services after Hiding all MS Services, then rebooting to try again?

We regularly see here those who want to Repair Install an OS which may be too corrupt to in-place reinstall any longer. This would be indicated by some of the same issues that prompt the need to do one. But there's only so much the Upgrade can overcome before it actually saves time to do the reinstall. Since having a perfect new install is better for most than buying a new PC, we're not going to sell it short wasting time trying to kick a tired old dead horse.

Have you looked over these steps for doing a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7 ?

Not only have a million users done one without a single complaint but those who thought they didn't have needed software almost all found ways to recoup it by asking us about each that concerns you.

The modern way to avoid this is to save a Win7 backup image so you never need to reinstall again, but you need to have one first so that doing one perfect reinstall becomes not only indicated to get perfect performance, but also guarantees via imaging no need to do it again.

So read over the steps and ask back about your hesitations to see if we can vanquish them.

I did better, I uninstalled the AV and turned off all in msconfig. Didn't make a bit of difference.

I know how to do a full restore. I did it already. Full restores are such a pain. I'm guessing you work for MS if you think this is done without complaint or problems. Most of us need to get the machines operable for our clients and employees and a full restore as the only option is horrid, especially for those that have dozens of different programs on their systems. We do it because MS is such a paid about providing other alternatives.

Thanks for your input.
