Windows 7 pro?

Someone has suggested I could fix my SP1 problems by installing Win7 Pro, seems like an easy option.

What say the knowledge base, and where is the cheapest obtained?

Interesting Wikipedia says all versions of Win7 are already on it, maybe just an activation key is all I need?

What problem are you having? A clean install of any version of Win 7 may solve your problem, not sure why someone would suggest Win 7 Pro would work any better than say Win 7 Home.

This laptop wont install win sp1, trying for years, never backed up either. If I can do clean install of 7HomePremium, without a disc Id go that way, but if it comes to coughing up Id rather improve a bit for the $.

What do you mean "the laptop won't install SP1"? == You say "it never backed up either". You do know that a laptop just does not backup its self. It takes you to back up a laptop by doing something. Maybe you could expand on the problems.

Yep if you have a 7 home premium 32 bit key I've read others say it will activate a 64 bit version of home premium
I've personally never tried it,
But none the less there are places to download the iso file to clean install the version with sp1 already on it,

Once you have the iso just put it on a ubs with option 2 here,

I have tried to back the computer up a few times with DVDs and thumb drives, but it seems to stall and go no further. It's going through a backup attempt at the moment, hope it works! I have tried everything with sp1 I have tried the Windows update, I have sp1 on a sd card, and copied that to a DVD, still gets half way on the install and stops.
The thing is possessed!

Well since then the backup hasn't progressed past 49%. Been there for a few hours now, 49 %, no further.

SFC Scan stop at 94%, update SP1 stops at about 50% through the install, backup stops at 49% and wont budge. Also 4gig of ram, but only 2.67 available. When I open C drive and look at the CD drive, the display is in RED and looks like the DVD is full, but Im not being asked to put another one in, and it doesnt want to eject the DVD

Must be a clue in there?

Have you run a System File Check to make sure there aren't any errors that can't be fixed ?

Well I ran one of those scans and found 'integrity issues' which have been saved to a log. And error 87. I'll try to post the log, what other scan codes can I run?

So reinstall windows Home Premium with SP1, problem solved, you have the key, you just need the installer. If you wanted to install Pro you`d have to buy it.

And install 64 bit so you can max out the memory.

Service Pack 1 is a simple update which should have been installed years ago.

chewtah let try to get things in order.

1. You have Windows 7 Home Premium/32
You will never see all of your 4 gigs of ram.

2. Do your backup to a external hard drive or ssd. Not DVD's

3. You must have SP-1 before you try to fix Windows 7.

And install 64 bit so you can max out the memory.

As i said in your other thread. Get a friend to download SP1 to a usb, and input from that.

To earlier contributors, the OP has had his OS verified via Mxdiag.

@ Dave,
He had a post in Activations thats what i was referring too.

I suspect his best bet is a factory reset, having said that he's running on a data cap, not good for a reset , hence my comment in his other thread.

To install that OS with Service pack 1, he will also have to use the code on his COA sticker, which will only entitle him to the Home version. (BUT he still has a 3 or 4gig monthly download allowance).

HE DOES NOT have an Ultimate activation code.
