Solved Windows 7 random freeze problem

Recently I sent my computer for repairs, there was a problem with the screen flashing to black constantly instead of showing up my username and password field whenever I booted it up. The problem continued even in safe mode, and the guys at the repairs told me they could not access my hard drive, and so they got me a new one.
Because of that I've lost all my files, but there seems to be a problem with random freezes now. It doesn't matter for how long my computer has been on or whether or not it was idle or in use, it will randomly freeze and doesn't come back unless I manually restart it. This has been a huge hassle, sometimes it will only freeze once a day but some other times it freezes every 20 minutes. I've heard there's a hotfix for this kind of issue, but I'm not sure if I should go for it or not since it advises you not to download them unless your problem is exactly as described.
I've tried running chkdsk and sfc /scannow, nothing seems to happen except for the latter who tells me it found (and fixed) a few files and when I restart it I first get a "Windows could not find pleasewait.exe" error message, then it would restart by itself and boot up fine again. That usually makes the freezing stop for a while, but it always comes back eventually.

Even though no one has replied to this thread after almost a year and I spent a good time without a solution, the problem is fixed now.
It turns out it was a socket/adapter problem. I did try everything I could find on the internet about this, but had never found anyone who suggested an external cause. I ended up finding this out when I moved out to an apartment around november, and had to plug my computer to a different adapter. The freezing has stopped and I never had a problem with it ever since. I suppose it's because the former adapter was very old, and had problems with connections in some entries (which I only found out about later, when it started to make crackling noises). I guess when I had gotten my computer back I must have plugged it in a defective one which lead to this freezing issue.
I'll leave this here just in case someone else may have had the same problem as I did and no solution seems to work. Check your socket adapter, switch the entry to see if it's a connection issue or get a new one.

What socket adapter are you referring to. Their are hundreds of socket adapters.

The socket adapts from what to what.

Sorry, english isn't my first language and "socket adapter" was the first thing I could think of to use to describe it. I apologize for the misunderstanding.
It was one of these things which I don't know the name in english, but very old.

I had been using it to plug in my computer and the internet modem as well. As soon as I switched it, the freezing stopped.

You could use a surge protector. It has plug in's for most everything.

Google and you will find truck loads of them.
