I am currently waiting for my replacement video card, and hope that will fix things.
Still, a few question remain tha ti am hoping might help point a finger at a culprit:
1. I did notice that the most reliable freezes I had were:
A. 10-30 minutes into capturing video from a firewire camcorder
B. ~10 minutes into having Picasa scanning pictures for faces.

While waiting for video card, I am also using the windows "Verifier" tool to look for driver resource deadlocks. doing this in parts, but I should be done tonight. So far, freezes have not been noticed by Verifier.exe.

Thank you for any advice and guidance!

I had a few freezes, twice while booting up windows 7, once on BIOS boot (yes, it froze on the MB loading screen), others while doing random things such as browsing internet or playing a game. It only works again after i turn off the power supply and turn on the pc again (reboot button only leads to black screen)

I haven't had the time to try many things to fix but i still have no idea what causes the issue.

Problem finally resolved

OK...finally got my PC back form repairs. The techs did see the problem and replaced the motherboard.
The computer has been problem free since I got it with the new board (5 days ago). I just wish they had tested things out the first time around, before shipping it out when I bought it. That would have saved me a LOT of time, worry and annoyance.

In any case - thanks to all who suggested tests and solutions. they were all much appreciated. Hopefully this thread will help someone else who has the same issues.

I would like to report that i also had the same issue (like i said above in an earlier post) and it was fixed with motherboard replacement too.

Before replacement, it was working with freezes untill one day it did not boot up anymore. I went to an store and they made some tests and detected my MB as the problem. The motherboard was replaced and i had to format for the pc to work again... It has been working smoothly since.

I'm glad that its working nicely once again but kinda upset about losing the second most expensive piece of my pc at the time i built it on 2007.. First was the 8800gtx and then the Asus Striker Extreme... pfft... not even 3 years =/

I've been experiencing this same problem. For the other people experiencing this, I do want to ask if y'all experienced the blue screen of death before the freezing started, or if this has also followed a trojan infection, and/or removal? Also, the reason I am asking this is because I have found in my system information under "System Summary/ Components/ Problem Devices" something called ROOT\LEGACY_SPLDR\0000. Could this be related to the problem?
