Windows 7 Release Candidate due date is May 5?! Wow! I can't wait. I am gonna need a blank DVD to burn it to and use. I hope it is sturdy and doesn't crash or have too many bugs it it. What I don't know it how long that setup version on the hard drive will last. Will it last until the full and final thing is out?

Is Windows 7 likely, or very likely to come with their final version of the software this year or does it look more like 2010? I am hearing conflicting results all over the web. What's going on and when can we Windows users use Windows 7 RC as long as we want without having to get a license and upgrade or whatever.

I am kinda bored or Vista now. I want something new. I also need to try WMP12. I wonder how much hard drive space is needed to run Windows 7, beta, rc or otherwise...hmmm. Fo' shizzle!

You don't have to burn Win7 on DVD to install, you can make it by mounting image to virtual drive and running installation from your current OS level. And this is not system update, just clean install. Installer copies files to hard drive, reboots and installs.

Hey Alan Wake. It's okay with the image to burn to DVD thing. I don't mind. I mostly burn images straight to discs. I still want to know how long I can keep the Win 7 RC on my hard drive as my OS. Can I keep it until "forever", lol, or at least when another Windows comes along years from now? I want to use it as anyone would use Windows XP. One install and that's it. Is that possible.

Wow wow!

Hello Alan & Cellshift,

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

I'm sure the RC will have a time limit just as the beta does. We can only guess at the date, but sometime in 2010. Should be after final release unless something goes terribly wrong.

Enjoy,
Gary

type "Winver" (sans quotation marks) in the Start menu Search bar, then select winver.exe and you'll see how long you can use it - the expiration date is right there.

The same will hold true for RCs.

Wow wow!

Your current Vista will not expire. However, if you install Windows 7 as a beta or RC, it will expire in 2010. You will then need to purchase or acquire the final RTM or GA version to replace it. When you install a beta or RC version you are agreeing to test it to some extent. It's not really a free ride.

Never really expected Vista to expire. But I am waiting a long time for win 7. I wish I had some definite range. September or October with no more delays. Some predict 2010 but I am hopeful for '09.
