Windows 7 RTM Update: Roadmap Possibly Altered

Initially, we reported that the RTM build was going to be officially signed off and announced on July 13th. At the time, Windows 7 was proceeding on schedule and several internal sources in Microsoft both close to GeekSmack and other sites have told us that the RTM was in fact coming on July 13th. However, it seems like due to several show stopper bugs, one that we think has to do with activation, the RTM build has been delayed from the initial date.
Today was pretty much the deadline that Microsoft internally set to choose and decide on an RTM build, but from what we’re now hearing none of the builds thus far have been deemed good enough, and so they’re continuing to compile RTM candidate builds. Backing this, in the recent Microsoft press release regarding the executive re-shuffle, they stated this: “The transition between Reller and Veghte is timed to take place in late July when Windows 7 reaches the release to manufacturing (RTM) milestone”.

Again, when we initially reported on the matter, internal sources and other forms of evidence led us to believe that the RTM was coming, and I can safely say that at the time it was confirmed and it was going to happen, but with these new show-stopper bugs present Microsoft had to make a change to the roadmap to accommodate the time it will take to iron them out.

JUST RELEASE IT ALREADY! Manufacturers can do the rearm trick just to develop some drivers and compatability settings! then fix it later in a internal system update before it comes to the public!

Good luck with the thread, I posted the same thing in another thread and was jumped on, only time will tell who is right and what is true or not.

Correct. July 13th is only the day that MS announces the RTM Sign-off, not the actual release of RTM. Although I believe there will be a leak of the RTM before August as there are rumors that onJuly 24 final will be available on MS Connect and MSDN.

Edit: I noticed that the article is talking about the sign off and not the release, but I am sure that MS will announce some info on RTM on the 13th as they have already booked an announcement at WPC09.

I suspect MS will have something more definitive at the WPC09 there without doubt. One reason why MS would be set for August would be the introduction to manufacturering of the new USB 3.0 standard going out to commercial interests.

Private users won't see that however until 2010 giving manufacturers the time to work on their new product lines in conjunction with Windows 7. 7 once RTM for sure will already include support for this. So in a sense those two work hand in hand.

I suspect due to the time frame once the signoff takes place and Connect, MSDN come to life there you will find some form of leak. As far as the August release to manufacturers word on that goes back as far as February showing the MS commitment to that time frame.
