Recent XP-to-Windows 7 convert, and trying to get myself accustomed to W7's Search function. I've indexed my files, and all seems to be working. But there's one problem: At one point, when I ran a search, one particular view of the results window would show me little snippets of the text in the documents, with my my search words highlighted in yellow. I can't seem to get that view anymore. I get List view, and Details view, and Tiles view, etc. -- but no snippets anymore. I assumed that Content view would provide those little excerpts, but no luck. What am I doing wrong?

Welcome to Seven Forums.

IT is the Content view that does it. I just tested mine and some docs have a snippet and some don't, I have no explanation for that.
I normally use the Start :orb:Search box.

Thanks, Britton30. I think I discovered the cause of the problem. I had installed a little utility call Folder Options X (here), which makes items in the Explorer folders appear closer together vertically (like XP, which I prefer). Unfortunately, it seems that the utility disables Explorer's Content view -- because when I uninstalled it, the Contents view returned.

I guess I can't have my cake and eat it too. I have Classic Shell installed, which works fine, but it still doesn't reduce that vertical spacing. So if you have any suggestions on how to get Explorer items to appear less airy, pls. let me know. Thanks.

Glad you figured it out Bruce. Of course I come from XP too and have grown to like the w7 way of things better and more fluid.
I think you'll find about any folder option you want in Control Panel/Folder Options. There's also the ones at the top of Explorer windows as well.
