Windows 7 searching for content only.

I've been looking to see if there's a button, setting, feature, etc, to search files by content ONLY.

I found in Folder Options the radio button to include content in searches. But that's too broad.

Any one know?

I believe (and just tested) you can use the "content:" prefix, without the quotation marks (the colon is important).

Ah. Very nice. I tested that with "New Text Document.txt" with the word scooter in it, and "Scooter.txt" with no text in it at all. Both files on the desktop.

In Explorer, I opened C:\Users\[my account] and typed "content:scooter" into the Search field.

Only New Text Document.txt was a result. It did work. Thank you.


Another thing leaves me further curious... how would I have clicked to find that search filter? You can click on the search field and get the option to "Add a search filter." The options it shows are different depending on whether or not you've already search for something, with a completed search giving more of those options (like dates, for example). Why do I not see "content" as one of those filters? Is it located some where else?

Annoyingly, it only shows some filters. I found that one with a lucky guess (did exactly what you did with a new text document!) but there are a few websites around with a nice list of various filters.
