Solved Windows 7 showing incorrect time and date

Hi Friends,

I have two PCs, both running a legal copy of Windows 7 Home Basic 64 bit. Both the PCs are less than 3 years old. Both have a reputed 3rd party internet security suite installed on them and both have their Windows OS fully updated.

All the hardware components in both the PCs are working fine ie cpu, RAM, HDD, motherboard etc.

I have changed the CMOS batteries in both PCs, but to no avail.

One PC often shows a correct date, but wrong time while the 2nd PC often shows incorrect time and incorrect date. I have tried to resolve these 2 issues by trying to synchronize them with all the listed time servers. This method worked for a couple of days for both the PCs, but then again the 2 issues returned. I have stopped, started and restarted Windows Time service a million times, but every now and then these 2 issues return.

Even if you do not connect a Windows 7 PC to the internet, it should show a correct date and time using the BIOS settings, right?

Can anyone please help me find a permanent solution to these issues?

Have you tried resetting the time & date in the BIOS. You can access the BIOS when you first start the computer by repeatedly hitting either the Del key, F8 or F12. Look through the BIOS settings for Time & Date, reset them & then be sure to Save when exiting the BIOS.

Sorry to reply so late. Yes, I have tried resetting the time & date in the BIOS, but after a restart the date remains correct but time is incorrect and I have to manually update time by clicking on [Change the date and time settings] at the bottom of the clock calendar and syncing with one of the listed time servers . Please guide me. Thanks

If that fails, I suggest that it may be a router problem. Can you access the webpage of your router? There will be a time/date setting there which might allow changes.

When you made time & date changes in the BIOS did you Save the settings before exiting the BIOS. Usually in most BIOS there is a Save & Exit & the computer then boots normally.

1. Time Zone
2. Do you have Linux installed on the troubled computer?
3. Is the time off the same amount every time or does it very?
4. Verify your motherboard bios battery with a DVOM. I have had new batteries that were bad.

A few thoughts.
Do you have Linux installed on the troubled computer?

Yes, but on a totally different internal drive, its Fedora 25. I often disconnect the drive with Windows on it and connect this one with Fedora on it. I have 4 different internal hard drives, each of them running a totally different OS.

Is the time off the same amount every time or does it very?

Yes, the time is off the same amout, date is always correct, but time off the same amount each time I boot the PC.

Verify your motherboard bios battery with a DVOM. I have had new batteries that were bad.

I have put in place a totally new battery.

After all the efforts, the problem remains, date is OK, but time is not.

Going by my memory, their was a problem with different Linux system that would reset the time when it was used. Once back in Windows 7 the time would be off and need reset.

I would think that this Linux time problem would be fixed by now.

Yes linux will mess with the clock mostly because it is not all that popular in the u.s. I'd guess
Easy to fix though once you get the string to use in the terminal that is

Linux adjust the hardware clock with UTC time (GMT). Windows adjust the hardware clock with local time.

I also have Linux on my computer. On Lubuntu I set the clock sync to Manual and it worked.
