Windows 7 SP1 Install and Uninstall Update Available

Concomitantly with the availability of Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Release Candidate (RC), Microsoft also released an update designed to streamline certain scenarios such as the deployment and removal of the upgrade.

Just ahead of the 2010 Professional Developers Conference 2010 (PDC 2010), the Redmond company offered early adopters the next milestone of Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, namely the RC Build.

At the same time, the software giant released the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 installation software feature update.

KB 976902 will be a requirement for the integration of upgrades into both the last Windows client and server platforms.

In addition, the refresh is also designed to increase the stability of the two operating systems in scenarios in which customers uninstall a service pack.

“This software update will be a prerequisite to install service packs. Additionally, this update improves reliability when you install or remove Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 updates and service packs,” Microsoft explained.

In order to be able to deploy SP1 RC, testers first need to uninstall SP1 Beta, if it was already installed.

I just checked the list of my updates and yeah, KB 976902 was offered to me on Oct. 26th.
Still, I am wondering if there really is a need to install SP1 since I already have all important updates installed.

Looks like the "Black Hole Update" is back. I installed it the first time around so I guess I'm covered even though I'm probably not going to install the RC of SP1.

I downloaded SP1 RC ... needed to disable Avira premium suite and use Windows Firewall in order to install it

If it added new features I would consider it, but since its only all the updates rolled into one installer I'll pass. If you are already patched up to date, I wouldn't think there would be any advantage to applying it now. If you were doing a clean install and already had it downloaded it would definitely save you some time on line doing updates. Once it goes final I'll save it to a thumbdrive with my other windows 7 updates and add-ons.

From the present situation, sp1 would only be a few updates more. But once SP1 RTM comes out, I'll download the standalone full installer, then slipstream it into my win7 install dvd, integrated dvd will come in handy for future installs.

I was planning to try out my slipstream as well once Sp1 comes out. If you could be sure and let us know how that software works for slipstreaming that would be super useful.
