I run Windows 7 Home Premium on SSD harddrive.
Windows 7 SP1 installation is failing. Package KB976932 is downloaded successfully but configuring update ends at 30%.

After automatic reboot startup repair shows message that computer is unable to start and a system restore is needed. Windows update shows that SP1 failed with Error code 800F0816.

After unsucessful update new directories in C:\ are created "55f623cd43f97854f8b14861dbf1" or "c44bdde73b255d0992464ebb53" including spinstall.exe.

To see error messages in the following logs in attachment:
- "C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log"
- "C:\Windows\Inf\setupapi.dev.log"
- "C:\Windows\winsxs\poqexec.log"
- "C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log"

What I have done to solve problem:
- Reinstalled Windows 3 times and installed service pack before other programs.
- Uninstalled Bitdefender antivirus before installation
- I have checked disk for hardware problems with chkdsk /F (CMD).
- I have checked corrupt files with sfc /scannow
- Run Microsoft "Fixit" and repaired window update components.
- I have installed system update readiness tool (Windows6.1-KB947821-v14-x64). I hope this program runs together with Windows update.
- Reninstalled .NET Framework 4.0 manually (dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64)
- I have also tried clean reboot (msconfig) but since Nvidia display driver is only services beside Microsoft services this seems pointless.

Recent installation to computer:
- New SSD harddrive: Kingston HyperX SSD 120GB 2.5" SATA
- Replaced PSU with: Corsair CX V2 600W
- Replaced GPU with: MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti 1GB PhysX

Thoughts about problem:
I previous thought the reasons was a malware but since I have reinstalled windows without any program the only option would be a bios virus which I understand is unlikely.
Could this error bee caused by conflict in Bios regarding harddrives?
Any way to detect hardware problems like PSU or harddrive?

Hope someone has a clue what could be wrong

From what little I can see, it looks to me like your SP1 download is corrupt.
What size is it?
Where did you download it from? - did you check the Hash values?
Try another download, and check the Hash values against the published ones.
Download: Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932) - Microsoft Download Center - Download Details
(one of the two at the bottom of the list, depending on whether you have 32-bit or 64-bit windows.)

I wish MS would put the hash values on the download pages instead of hiding them in MSDN pages!
Windows 7 SP1 sent to OEMs

Thanks for your responses! Feels great that someone actually can help out when things are bad.:)

SP1 is corrupt? I actually downloaded it via Windows update and thought that should secure a correct version.

Anyway I tried to install SP1 manually via link but as usual configuration update ends at 30% and then a system restore is proposed. This time I also received message that automated repair was not possible because "patch is preventing windows from starting" error code 0x490 and yes one new folder "c:\428fd9af1e363f2ca811d6\.

Questions:
- If SP1 is corrupt but downloaded via windows update does that indicate rootkit not removed during reinstallation of Windows?
- Best way to verify if I have a rootkit installed? (I scanned for rootkit with TDSkiller but nothing was found)
- Do I need to use list disk command "clean all" or is "clean" enough? (I understand clean all is not good for my SSD)
- I have also a secondary harddrive d: that I previous had Windows installed on. This disk now only include documents, pictures and programs not installed. This drive is not formated during reinstallation of Windows. Is there any way that rootkit could be activated on this drive if no programs are started?
- Other suggestions?

Try the standalone I pointed you at - it can work better than the WU under certain circumstances.
You may also want to consider doing the install under Clean Boot conditions.
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Thanks for tip I tried to install the stand alone installation with clean boot with no success.

Last try:
I also reinstalled Windows with SP1 included on CD and tried to reinstall. I then got same error as before. Ater Windows logo there is quick blue screen and then computer boot again. This time I choose to restart in safe mode and see that last driver that cannot load is "Windows/system32/drivers/disk.sys".

Conclusion: Something is wrong with my SSD disk firmware! So I try to update firmware for Kingston HyperX SSD 120GB.

After trying to install Windows with SP1 from CD same problem however without SP1 is fine.

What could cause that disk.sys is not loaded?
Anyone know how to proceed?
Anyway to verify if this is SSD problem?

I tried to install Windows 7 on old harddisk Western digital and that works so it seems SSD is not working or Bios is wrong. Still have not solved the problem however.

It sounds like it might be the SSD. I had an issue when I built this computer and the SSD not taking the OS.

I feel like a tool.. but I CANT REMEMBER HOW I FIXED IT! I changed something in the BIOS.

I'm sorry I'm not much more help than this...
